Hey,

Just about to send off my Hudson and Holland application (needs to be postmarked by Friday) and I was sure everything was good to go. Today, however, I'm nervous about applying and my chances of getting it. You see, I'm not an underrepresented minority. I have, however, created an extensive social justice background for myself. I just recently finished a social justice scholarship-based program that selects a limited number students from my city. The program was a year long and we studied cultures and learned about activism. Then, we took a scholarship-paid-for trip to 8 states for three weeks and met with people like Justice Ginsburg in DC and civil rights leaders.

I wrote all of this in one of my essay's and talked about how I've changed the climate in my school for special needs students. I've talked on NPR about special needs and the program and have very good recommendations and grades.

I'm just concerned that H&H will only look at students from underrepresented minorities. I realize that's the reason for the program and that they state they do accept student who aren't underrepresented but have a passion for social justice, I'm just wondering how many kids who aren't URMs are in the program? I understand if my shot is low on getting in, but I just want to be aware if it is so I don't get my hopes up because the program sounds great.

Thanks,
Coste
