I’m a rising senior. I want to go to college in Manhattan. My GPA is 88 and My SAT score is 1580 however I’m taking it again in October and plan to boost it up my 400 points. My first choice was NYU but i don’t think my grades are good for that. I want to major in biology. Is hunter college any good? Is it similar to NYU? Are there any other alternatives to NYU? Any other colleges in Manhattan with a good biology program?
Manhattan College is a much better school and in a much better area. It has a real campus and lots of school spirit.
Hunter is nothing like NYU. My old office was not far and Hunter is a very depressing environment. If you are lucky to get housing, it is very far from campus.
The dorms at Hunter are on 25th and first and are in the school of health sciences ( nursing, PT etc). The dorms are hard to get. The other classes are uptown, I believe 68th and Park Ave. I can’t speak about the inside of the buildings but the actual area around the school is nice. There is no campus. Although the area is nice, it is not like the area around NYU ( but NYU has no campus either). The nursing school is excellent and the PT program is very competitive. I do not know about biology. My friend’s daughter graduated from Delaware with a 3.9 and good GRE scores etc and did not get accepted to the PT program. The undergrad acceptance rate is 31%. Hunter does not have the reputation or " vibe" of NYU but it’s a fine school at a reasonable price.
Are you a NY resident? Hunter is part of the CUNY schools which means it is very inexpensive and a really great school. Never found it depressing but I’m a native NYer. The housing difficulties are as people have stated, but that’s not too dissimilar to NYU. Oh, and they have housing all over uptown, downtown, etc.
There are so many schools in NYC, do a little research, then ask more directed questions.
