Husson University AHEAD scholarship

Anyone else familiar with this one? I got it in the mail just yesterday and I'm a little confused.

To quote the scholarship: "You have been selected by husson university as the recipient of the AHEAD scholarship for 8,000. This award is 2,000 a year and will be discbused at 1,000 a semester. This is a renewable reward for up to a total of eight semesters upon the following conditions:

You maintain a 2.5 or better at the end of the first year and carry a 12 credit hour or greater course load. This scholarship is applicable to day divison enrollment in undergraduate programs of study. The award is applied to each subsequent semester after the first two semesters."

My understanding is that this means I can't use this to fund my freshman year of college, then why is it valued at 8,000? I'm guessing it means if I took 5 years to graduate I'd end up with 4 of those years funded by this scholarship.

But....I imagine I'll only take 4 years to graduate and that would mean the scholarship only lasts for 3 years valuing at only 6,000.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I've sent an email to the admissions office about this but I wanted to know what you guys think.

bump, anyone willing to give me an answer? Am I wrong?

It’s a $1000 a semster. Four years are eight semesters. That adds uo to $8000. You have to keep a minimum gpa.

I know that, but the 2nd part confuses me sort of: “You maintain a 2.5 or better at the end of the first year and carry a 12 credit hour or greater course load. This scholarship is applicable to day divison enrollment in undergraduate programs of study. The award is applied to each subsequent semester after the first two semesters.”

Doesn’t that mean it won’t be useable until my sophomore year?

Yeah, that wording is weird. Ask Husson and let us know what they say.

From the university: "I spoke to Financial Aid and they said “The Ahead scholarship is for 4 years of undergraduate work. They would get it their first year here. As long as they maintain the GPA requirement they have it for 4 years.”

Apparently I was wrong and I CAN use it for my first year.

Good news; thanks for letting us know what you found out.
