Hey I’m currently at the Shields Library right now at UC Davis typing up this post. I just finished walking thru the Cofee House at the MU across the lawn from the library. The food selection here is very poor. There is not much in the way of places to eat on campus. There’s this cafeteria looking joint in the Cofee House which looks old and run down, and across from the cafeteria, down the hallway there’s some deli counter, bagel counter, pho counter, salad counter, and a coffee room.

Other than this place, there’s also a building called Silo that sells just fast food like Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr, all the usual unhealthy and greasy fast food selections. I didn’t check out Silo since it’s a long walk from here. I think these are the 2 main places on campus where students eat at, Coffee House and Silo.

The campus feels so relaxing. I see people laying on the lawn studying and also people playing frisbee. I also see alot of hot girls walking around. The weather is getting warm, and alot of them are wearing some really skimpy outfits.

Everyone here bikes. The parking situation looks like a nightmare. The parking garage are all full and finding parking took about 30 minutes. What I like best is that there is a 24 hour study room next to the library where you can study 24/7.

Nate, go downtown and grab a bite to eat! There's Pluto's, a sandwich/salad place, Chipotle, which is mexican food, and Woodstock's, which is a pizza place. Downtown is joined with campus, and you can get to downtown from the MU within 5 minutes walking.

The MU has more than enough places to eat. Any more would be overkill. You can get pizza, burritos, salads, pastas, sandwiches, bagels, etc, etc. I don't think there's anything else that I would want. Also, the food we have is REALLY GOOD. The burritos are comparable to chipotle in terms of enjoyability and the sandwiches are first class and really healthy. And the cafeteria looks run down? Maybe you should give a little more appreciation to the 100% student staff that keeps it up. Maybe if we hired professional janitors you would find it acceptable.

The silo isn't all fast food, btw. But even if it was, would it be a problem? That's the demographic it serves, students that need food on the way to a class or work or whatever. Regardless, it also has a deli(for healthy food), starbucks, crepe stand, sub stand, and a pub/cafe.

As for the parking situation, were a small college town and that's the appearance we're trying to keep. If we had huge parking lots all over the place it would diminish the college aura we have, wouldn't it? Also, maybe if you knew more about the parking lots you wouldn't have been squandering your time as there are ALWAYS open parking lots. Take it from me, I drive to school everyday.

Geez that's kind of hostile, isn't it? He made some uninformed observations, but that's to be expected. Just correct him instead of getting so defensive.

Ok, ok, I ****ed it up. Sorry for blowing up on you, I'm just tired of seeing all of these negative posts toward my university. My aggression was uncalled for, especially since you're a good poster, nate(usually) ;)..

Is the food selection poor or excellent? I'm inclined to believe Nate's account since he's expressing his opinion while it seems like megathunder is just throwing out the exact opposite of what Nate says to defend his school.

So, I guess it's true that the cafeteria looks run-down, because UC Davis doesn't have the money to hire professional janitors?

Why does having parking diminish the "college aura" and the small college appearance? I thought UC Davis is trying to become the next flagship UC by expanding. Also, are colleges not supposed to have parking lots/structures?

Oh yes, where are these parking spots that are always open? I'm planning to visit my cousin who's a graduate student at Davis and I don't want to spend 30 minutes looking for a parking spot. Thanks.

Don't park at the north one. I assume this is the one that nate parked at. That place is always full, prob since it is closest to the heart of the campus.

beastmaster where on the UCD campus will you need to be? IMO it is hard to answer your question with such little information. I have a daughter at UCD and have not found parking to be a problem when I visit her. As to the food. I have posted on this before. UCD has the same kind of on campus food services as all the other UC's. (yes I have visited all but UCR and UCM) I just visited Cal Poly and found it to be quite similar as well. There are hundreds of places to eat in Davis beyond the campus, and all in walking distance. Food will be the last of your worries at UCD. Use the wiki if you need to find a place to eat.

nate cali I just noticed the date you posted from UCD is April 3rd. It is spring break for high schools and everyone is visiting colleges, UCD included. That's why you can't find parking, lol. That being said everyone at UCD does bike, use public transportation or walk. This is because UCD is a college town and everything is designed around the school. It is not necessary to ever have a car at UCD if you don't want to have one.
