I Am So Angry

I am so angry. I recently sent my Brown essay (which I have already submitted ED, thank god) to someone on collegeconfidential to read.

This is what they sent back:

hey thanks for sending ur brown essays.
now i dont have to spend my time writing them
i will try to change the sentence structures so the adcoms wont notice it. k?
hope to see you at brown next year!!

As I said earlier, I am so angry. It’s not Brown I’m worried about… I was planning on using this essay on the common app. Can I still use it? Please guys, tell me something to keep me from flipping out any further.

have you reported them to whoever it is that runs this site? hopefully you'll get in ed and won't have to worry about it. i'd save their pm, just in case

Report it to a mod... I hate people who would do something like that. Be careful who you send things to.

it soudns to me like they may be joking, but i could be totally wrong of course

And if you think this person is actually going to use your essay, call the Brown admissions office. Tell them exactly what happened -- that you were on college confidential and had somebody you thought was friendly look over your essay, and then read them or email them what this person wrote you. Tell them you wrote your essay completely honestly (and that your guidance counselor or somebody can vouch for you) and to watch out for somebody using a similar essay in the RD pool.

these are just my thoughts

if i were going to do the completely dishonest (and pointless when you think about it) act of stealing an essay from someone, I would not want people to find out about it. thus I wouldn't tell them:

I think this guy is just a troll, don't worry about it.

Don't worry about it. You already submitted it to Brown BEFORE this person read it, so obviously yours was first.Second, it sounds like a troll. Truly. Use it and don't worry.
I still don't understand why people would send essays to strangers, though. How about relatives and friends or your guidance counselor if you need advice.?

1.sounds like a troll
2.you took the risk. time to pay up

Agreed....it isn't like CC is the safest place to divulge information, especially when someone could just steal it.

Agreed with celebrian and glucose: If you want to fix this, call Brown first and then every college you're interested in and be sure to tell them what happened. Send them a copy of your essay, statim.

Fortunately, It turned out ok. After a loud internet screaming match (the screaming was done by my part) the guy admitted that it was a joke. And truly, unless he went to Governor's school for art, I don't know how he could use my essay. However, I was already completely stressed out that day and did not think of this. Thanks for everyone's calming words.

yea i think they were definitely just kidding. don't worry about it.

id say something like that as a joke...

this is why i haven't posted or sent my essay on CC even though i was very tempted....

hahahahahaha
