Can anyone give me their opinion on whether or not I’ll get accepted through an appeal?
I have a
4.2 GPA weighted
I rank 20/738 of my senior class
3.67 Capped GPA
In soccer and track
Multiple clubs
Community service at church and old people home
Major: psyc
SAT:1190
AP scores: 5 on Lang Spanish
Took 6 AP Classes the rest honors only one college prep class in all 4 years
My reason to appeal not originally stated in app:
Family drug abuse in home. Uncle passed away from drug abuse but I have started to attend therapy and use art as an outlet
Grades began to drop beginning of sophomore year until second semester of junior year. First semester of senior year I earned a 4.4 GPA
I am a Mexican and live in a city with poor living conditions
The UC’s can’t consider ethnicity in admissions.
Appeals work if there was a mistake made on the part of your school or the university.
If your academics or test scores have changed/increased, then that’s something they may reconsider.
The UC’s tend not to consider “sob” stories as an excuse for decreased grades because they have “sought-after” students who succeed despite their surroundings. They learn this from the counseling staffs at the high schools.
Earning good grades in senior year shows an upward trend, but they really consider sophomore and junior years as a litmus test.
I think your SAT scores are the culprit since they may be too low to keep up with studies on Davis’s 10-week quarter system. They want to see you succeed.
@hopefulstudent07 —your stats are on the low end for UC Davis but that is a reflection of the high level of competition for admission, not your ability to keep up as a prospective psych major. An 1190 SAT is roughly 75th percentile and you could succeed at Davis or any other UC campus – don’t let anyone tell you anything different.
