I took Algebra 2 Honors and got a A first quarter, then a C second quarter, and a D in third and fourth quarter, and my Year Grade came out to a D.
I made the biggest mistake in my sophomore year, but some colleges say “C or better”.
Should I retake the class? Would it affect my GPA? How will it show up on my transcript?
Does it matter than I got a D in an honor’s class? That’s the only D I got the entire high school so far. Would it affect a lot?
Usually, if you retake a class the old grade would be deleted from your transcript and the new grade would replace it (meaning the old grade won’t be factored into your GPA). This could vary from school to school, though, so I would check in with your guidance counselor.
Whether or not this grade would affect college admissions depends on where you’re applying and the selectivity of those schools, as well as the rigor of the rest of your classes and your overall GPA.
You need to check with your HS about whether you can retake the class and if the grade would be replaced.

Depends on the school. Many will still show both, but check with your C for your school’s policies.
During your meeting with your counselor, also ask about your progress towards graduation. Some high schools require summer school or a retake for grades below a C.
