ok so… spanish 3 turned out to be hell and i ended up with a D
I’m a senior next year and you know…college…and I’m just wondering how bad this D will affect my chances of getting into college i mean my major has nothing to do with spanish but a D is never good
first D ive gotten in a class T_T i know i have no chance of getting in UC now
- You can retake Spanish 3 and replace the D with the new grade. This way your D will not be included in your GPA.
- You can take AP Spanish or Spanish 4 (if that class exists?) and have your D validated, but the D will remain on your transcript and be included in your GPA.
Validation of Grades: “Grade Deficiency” – validation of D or F grades in a lower-level course after completion of a higher-level course with a grade of C or better.
The second semester of a course validates the first semester of that course or lower-level a course, even if the first semester course was at the Honors, AP/IB or College-level.
As a reminder, the original deficient grade (D and F) is still calculated in the GPA for UC freshman admissions. Note: To remove a grade deficient from the calculation, a repeat of the exact same course is required
Depending upon your GPA, you may be able to get into a UC, but I would consider other options just in case.
do you think i can retake it over the summer? i don’t have any room on my schedule for next year to retake this class and since i did terrible in this class there’s no way i can do better in AP spanish :-S
If your school offers the class this summer, then yes. There are probably also on-line options.

If you can retake in the summer, that would be the best optipn since you can replace the grade prior to college applications.
