I Got In!!!!! YAY

I just got home this morning from a service project and I opened my email. To my astonishment there was an acceptance letter awaiting me. Here is what it said:

Congratulations!

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that, from over 19,000 applicants for admission to Duke University, you have been accepted to join the class of 2011. Better yet, you are one of forty-two students selected as finalists for our prestigious Angier B. Duke Memorial Scholarship.

To fifteen students per year, the A. B. Duke Scholarship program offers four years' undergraduate tuition at Duke, a six-week summer program at Oxford University, and access to research/special project funding through a President?s Research Fellowship. Recipients of the A. B. Duke Scholarship?and all other finalists who matriculate to Duke? can expect that should you qualify for institutionally-determined aid, as an AB Duke scholar you will not be asked to contribute to the "self-help" portion of your institutional financial aid package.

That is awesome!! You must be feeling on top of the world!! Congratulations!!

Ya man im ecstatic!!! Its weird, because things happen at the precise moment where you least expect them. When I opened my email I thought it was information on receiving the decision on March 29. Duke wasnt my first choice originally, but with the possibility of a full ride, I may very well go. Its not that I didnt like Duke, I just hadnt researched it like I did the other two schools I really liked. If I get this scholarship, there is no way I can turn it down. Duke is too amazing. I am so happy, and reassured, and rambling!!!

So what are the other two schools that you thought you preferred??

I was mainly focused on either Penn or Princeton. I applied to Princeton ED but got deferred. Those two schools stood out not only for their academics but because my dad actually lives about a half hour from each, so convenience played a big part.

I am really worried though because I cant attend the finalist weekend. I won an essay contest and will be in Poland at the time. Is there anything I can do?

Finalist for the scholarship??

Tell them. They'll figure something out for you. This won't be the first time this has happened, I'm sure.

Ya I mean im sure not everyone can go each year. It would be pretty cruel to lose a full ride on something so dumb. I am going to be so screwed school wise because I am gone April 11-25, right before IB exams. I would only be able to fly up there on a possible 2 weekends most likely.

Don't get anxious yet. Call them first thing Monday (?? Or maybe there they're today?? It is prime ad comm season, after all) and get the facts regarding what you/they can do.

Get all the information first. They will accomodate you one way or another.

Ya I hope so, because this is an opportunity I can't miss out on.

Congrats man!
I don't think you would lose the scholarship if you aren't able to attend the finalist weekend.

Thanks, I hope so. I wouldnt want to waste this amazing opportunity.

wow.. I'm happy for you Mitchhhs.. both of us are fellow Pton ED deferrees *and * share an interest in rocketry.

congratulations!

Lol ya damn princeton lol. But yay rocketry, its what got me this. Do you have any idea where you will end up?

MIT hopefully..

I still have my fingers crossed for Princeton though, I can't stop loving that place.

congratulations! we are VERY similar statistically with the exception of u taking 9 APs. your profile makes me feel better about duke but very nervous for princeton ...

Good luck man!! From my experience so far it seems that Princeton is very political. The ED process gave me a little animosity toward the school. Just the way they handled everything really made me angry. But what can you do...

Congrats!!! Princeton deferrees unite lol.

wow congrats! im just wondering, how the heck does your school rank students with students in the country..?

I think she said county not country

yep.. I mistook it the same way when I read it the first time.
