I got 99 math 96 reading 90 verbal 97 total
I studied a lot of math and some reading and verbal
I studied probably about 1 to 2 hours a day for about a month
I do good in school and do a lot of ECs

rbupe: W'T'F'! GET LOST! He still has a chance!
"Why don't you give up on it and get of this board and get a life that you can actually obtain?"
WHO SAYS THAT!?!???!
God. What a horrible person...
Dont worry, Jonathan <3 I've got your back!!!

haha, thank you, crickett!

That's right Johnathan! I got your back also! I took the test last year and totally bombed--14% overall. I took it again this year and got a 82% overall. I really am hoping on getting into The Master's School. I'm also applying to Miss Porter's, Canterbury, and Taft. But I really want to go to The Master's School! Everything they focus on is what I'm geared towards. So hopefully everything will work out.

for people who don't necessarily have a hook i think a 75% on the ssat would still keep you in the running. initially received a 77 as an overall score and was told by the schools i was applying to that it wasn't necessary to take the test again. However, I truly believed i could do better and took the test again to score 88 overall and was accepted into andover, hotchkiss, and lawrenceville.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I recieved my ssat scores today as well. I was wondering if these scores, are good enough for the schools that I am applying for.
My scores I received were:
Verbal:749, 91%
Math:764, 88%
Reading: 644, 46%
Overall: 2157, 84%

The schools that I am applying for are Andover, Groton, and Middlesex. Are these scores good enough?

H-o-p-e-f-u-l: What exactly is a hook? I do not know if I have one or not. Thanks! I would be happy to post my stats if you would like to see them. Thanks, once again!

AGSAABS: Hooks are things that you are VERY passionate about. I, for one, am a STRONG swimmer. I have state championships, etc. Thats a hook. If you are a thesbian and have alot of leads, theatre camps, and prestigous awards, THATS a hook. Something impressive that they can gain by accepting you.

Ballerville: I'd re-take if theres time. Reading seems a bit low but all the other scores are acceptable.

hooks:
underrepresented minority (does not include Asians)
star athlete or any EC for which you've received notoriety or a prestigious "known" award (ie., all-state champion quarterback)
legacy
sibling legacy
your family donated a large sum of money (meaning millions)
you are the lead violinist and the school just lost it's lead violinist and you fit the bill (there are many variations of this and you probably won't know that they need you!

kind of a hook: geography. You are from an underrepresented state or country. The schools like to say they have a kid from every state and they list the number of countries sending students.

not hooks:
straight As
perfect SSAT scores
beauty
tons of ECs
polite/nice
everyone likes you
great recommendations

I might have left out a hook, but that's all I can think of.

I guess my hook would probably be violinist.
I'm from NJ which is obviously represented at NJ schools and am caucasian.
I do play golf and tennis, tennis more recreationally and golf more professionally.
I do not have any kind of legacy and my family did not donate any money.

Hey I got my SSAT scores today and I'm wondering if they're good enough to get into some top boarding schools (Deerfield, SPS, SGS, Westminster, Brooks, and Middlesex)?
these are my scores
Verbal: 761 - 92%
Math: 764 - 77%
Reading: 749 - 97%

Total: 2274 - 95%

I think everybody is blwoing the importance of ssat's out of proportion, someone of the first page of this thread said you had to 95% and aboev on all the tests, this is NOT true, i know a ton of people who got into the best schools with MUCH lower scores!!!!1

and rbupe, what is your problem?! Jpnathan still has a huge chance, probably bigger then you, because the admissions office doesn't like jerks!

Not to throw cold water on everyone who achieved such stellar SSAT scores (congrats everyone, BTW), but it is evident based on what has happened in the past, that high SSAT scores aren't a guarantee into boarding school. The girl who started this post had great ssat scores, a high GPA, good EC's and still got rejected/waitlisted from Andover, Exeter, and Deerfield.

I hope every single one of us gets into a school of our choice in March, but sadly, I fear that won't be the case.

I'll second pixiechick. If you want the boarding life, select a balanced list of boarding schools for your applications. And look for schools in which you feel comfortable. It will become your home away from home with a rich life beyond academics. If you have a 99% SSAT, you will not be the only 99%er at a school with an average SSAT of 70%. Most schools have a range of students.

higher acceptance rate=lower endowment=lower scholarahsips=no way i could go. ;(

Nellyrae -- If you are a solid fit for a school and your stats are high for that school, many of those lower endowment schools will give you better FA than they give to other applicants. In otherwords -- if they want you, they may make your FA package doable.

so -- you might include some reach schools, but if you have your heart set on attending a boarding school, you might look at some schools where you are a good fit and your stats are high for that school.

hmmmmm...any ideas for schools?

OMFG what I would give to be in your shoes.....

Is there a minimum % required for each of the SSAT sections - reading, quantitative and verbal for Andover ? What if you have a good overall score but a lower reading or verbal score ?

They don't have a cutoff score, but the average is in the mid 90s.
