I'm so excited!! :)

Anyone else?

I'm so excited!! :)

Anyone else?

Congrats! That's got to be a great feeling. A lot to look forward to next year.

it's a bit early is it not? not even all of the admittees have gotten their reply stuff in

Thanks, duke25. Yeah, I'm bouncing off the walls right now with excitement. There's so much to look forward to next year.

Dionysus, hey, I thought so, too, but I'll eagerly take it. They only notified me by email, just today.

ME TOO! xDDD
It was definitely unexpected. What are you giving up for Duke then, PPham?
BTW, the following quote was in the email:

"Whatever you want in life, you must give up something to get it. The greater the value, the greater the sacrifice required of you. Everything has a price. There's a price to pay if you want to make things better, and a price to pay for just leaving things as they are. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easily." - Max Steingart

Congratulations!

Look forward to seeing you on campus in the fall, maybe.

Congratulations to both of you. :D

Congrats, joannerz! Yeah, the quote was a nice touch. I'm giving up the Schreyer's Honors program at Penn State, which I like a lot, too, but definately loved Duke more. How about you?

THanks!
Well, I assumed I'd be going to Northwestern, BUT I've always been hesitant over how much I'd benefit as a bio major. I still can't believe I'm now one of those people who'll be rooting on future wait-listers to not lose hope.

congrats... maybe I'll helped you, b/c I turned down Duke... lol... congrats again...

Congrats to both of you for getting off the waitlist!
Duke is da bomb! :D

How you guys could get off the waitlist even the school is still collecting its acceptance mails. Can you post your "off waitlist" emails? Thanks.

I got off the waitlist too! But choosing between this and an Ivy league ain't easy

Dear ________,

Congratulations! I am delighted to tell you that we have a place for you in
the Class of 2011 at Duke.
If you would like to receive the admitted student packet of information,
please contact me by email or telephone ( 919-684-0157) by Tuesday May 8,
2007.

You do not need to commit to attending Duke in the fall at this time; only
that you are still interested and would like to receive our formal letter
of admission.
Once you and your family have reviewed the admitted student information,
we would like to hear from you within a week confirming your plans.
We will send your admission packet priority mail once I hear from you.

Again, my personal congratulations on this exciting news. I hope to meet
you on campus in the fall.

Cordially Yours,

PPham27: I chose Duke over Schreyer as well! Congrats.

oh no!! do you think it's too late for anyone else to get off the waitlist? i thought the due date was May 15th, so i didn't send in my waitlist stuff until yesterday... well, i already sent in my card in mid april, but i didn't send in my letter + recommendation + essay until yesterday!!! i want to go to duke... :(

unitedhell: what are you now choosing between? just curious!

and

PsychedelicSushi: I wouldn't count yourself out. I'd say that there is definitely still time, at least IMO.

Based on last year, Duke started taking people before May 1st when they realized their yield was going to be low. They took people all the way through the summer (not sure how late exactly), so if you don't hear right away, don't get worried. I hadn't sent in my additional info, just had the alumni interview coordinator in my area email my admissions officer in support, when I found out I was accepted in early May last year.

Congrats to all those who got in!

This year's yield is mad low. Obviously the wait list is open.

Strawboy's language about admissions yield is certainly provocative -- "mad low" -- so I'm tempted to dismiss it as simply gunning at Duke by someone who didn't get in or has some other agenda (pumping up his school).

Going to the waitlist could mean anything from the normal cherrypicking of top candidates (I took a waitlist spot at Duke and lost my deposit at UPenn) to last year's lacrosse-driven shock and resulting hangover. Does anyone with any insider view have a perspective on this?

Also, for someone with an admissions background, wouldn't an admissions office simply compensate by rejecting top quality applicants that they would assume would go elsewhere (ie, Harvard or Yale) to decrease the admit rate? Anecdotally I understand this to occur at several institutions

For my fellow Duke admits from the waitlist, congratulations and make the most of the opportunity. All that matters in the end is not how you were admitted but what you do when you get there

I rejected Duke for another school that fits me better. And from the looks of it, so did a lot of other people.
