So, I've taken the SAT 3 times already.
I'm pretty happy with my score
it was (770 CR, 690 M, 710 W)
My first time was (740 CR, 640 M, 710 W)
my second time was (710 CR, 640 M, 690 W)--(no idea how that happened)

But I really want to get a 700+ on my math!! that's it! I want to be competitive for the best schools...

What should I do? Will getting a 700+ on math outweigh the pitfalls of taking the SAT 4 times?

I would recommend taking it again to improve your math only if you are certain you will improve it. I don’t think this will hurt you as much as retaking a 2300 will but I am not 100% positive.

Retaking a 2300 only hurts if scores from all test dates are reported and the last one drops. (Even then, many schools just superscore and work from there.) I believe that’s what was meant.

At this point, the important question is: retake or focus on the app and essays, current grades and getting great reccs?

I don’t suggest retaking; 2170 is a solid score and it doesn’t look your scores have changed much since your very first time. Instead, as others have said, focus more on other aspects of your academic life.

No, no, no!!! Don’t take the SAT I anymore. 3 is alright, but more than that gets obsessive and a total waste of time and money. Instead, take the Math II and see how you do. That will have much more meaning than (yet) another SAT I.

3 is enough. Some schools view students with more than 3 as being professional test takers who should have been doing something more with their time.

3 is prolly enough. Constantly retaking and not getting a good score shows colleges that you aren’t succeeding. Also if you do retake, focus on the math only and hopefully the superscore turns out good. How’s your ACT?
