I just bombed the SAT......

My Nov. 7 test scores just came in. I am so dissappointed. I thought I'd do so much better.

Critical Reading: 580
Math: 490
Writing: 560
(1650)

Am I doomed??? How important is the SAT at Hillsdale?
Should I sign up for the January 23 test date and take it again before I apply for Hillsdale?

I'm so upset :(

I don’t know how Hillsdale views the SAT, but have you taken the ACT? You might still be able to get into the December 12 test.

I agree with John. Some students do better on the ACT than the SAT and vice versa. Try it. Also, sign up for the SAT again and prep like crazy. Look at the xiggi method that is posted on the test discussion threads. Or get a tutor, study group or whatever it might take. You have the time to do this.

Good luck!

Ideally you want to be within the middle 50% of students range of scores thats listed on collegeboard. Read the Barrons 2400. I looked through it before I took the SAT and it really helped (I broke 700s on each section on my first ever attempt of the test). Good luck ;)

P.S. I was somewhat disappointed with how they scored my essay :frowning: I definitely thought I got at least a 10, but instead received an 8. I think that the people scoring those essays are trained like robots: look for 2-3 examples, 5 paragraphs, literary and scholarly examples. Ohh well, they will never write as well as I do in real life :D

So, Audreygirl, what’s it going to be for you? Retake SAT and/or give the ACT a try?

Have you talked to your local Hillsdale adcom? There may be some wiggle room for you there depending on your ECs, GPA, etc.

Ugh man I dunno. I think I should stick with the SAT, because with finals (I’m in college right now) and personal statements I have to write, I don’t have time to approach an entirely different test.
I will just have to study hard for the January 23 SAT.

Thanks you all so much for responding. I will have to find an effective way to study for this thing. If there are any more tips or advice on how to study for the SAT, please post em!

Thank you guys :)

Study from the official college board blue book. Make it a habit to do one or two sections per day and throughly analyze your mistakes and even the answers you got right. Also, read the Barrons 2400. It has some great tips on saving time, approaches, what to watch out for, etc.
