I keep seeing conflicting responses about this...

Will UT consider your seventh semester grades and updated rank if you send them in? Apparently if you send them in before January 31st they will be considered? Others have said that they don't even want anything extra besides your completed app! I'm confused!

Read the class rank and changes in rank section under Counselor submitted items:

[Policies & Processes | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/counselors/hs/policies)

Oh thanks! But you won’t be eligible for automatic admission with your senior year rank?

My counselor showed me something she got directly from UT that said something along the lines of “No 7th semester rank change will be considered for admission.” So if you get into the top 9% after January 1, it won’t get you automatic admission.

Will they include the fact that I entered the automatic admission percentage in their holistic review of my application?

I don’t think it’ll matter at all. Sorry.

exploding: I would say send it, it won’t get you AA but it would seem it would only help so why not?

The paragraph that txex86 linked to directly contradicts this.

It may not be considered in terms of automatic admissions, but they wouldn’t accept updated ranks if they never considered them.

In the “changes” for 2012 section of the same Counselors website, the current, new policy on rank appears with a parenthetical acknowledging the old policy. Granted, it’s confusing because the two website references are in conflict. But it seems a fair interpretation is, it’s your rank as of Dec. 1 that counts.

Reporting Rank: The Office of Admissions will consider the rank that a student has submitted by the December 1 deadline when making admission decisions. (Applicants to summer/fall 2011 could submit updated rank after the deadline if their applications were complete by the deadline.) http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/counselors/hs/updates</a>

Strange. They need to update the page that txex86 linked to then.

Laaaaaaaaaame. I don’t know how good my chances will be then, since apparently only the first three years count and senior year means nothing.

This isn’t really a game-changer for applicants who are competitive on all factors. It simply means if you have nothing going for you but rank, you cannot bank on UT moving your admit from the holistic review stack to the auto admission stack when your school announces Jan. of senior year that you’ve reached the magic auto admit number.

Because the deadline has always been Dec. 1, your end-of-junior-year rank has always been the operative number.

If you aren’t an auto admit when you apply, the only different treatment you receive is, the holistic review of your app counts for both admission and major placement (as all apps undergo holistic review for major placement).

If you haven’t received a decision on your app by Jan., you can and should send an update of your fall senior year work if it shows a strong, steady or upward grade trend. Improved rank is a plus, too, just as are fall awards and honors. All UT is saying is, we have to draw the auto admit line somewhere, and we are sticking with the Dec. 1 application deadline.

Ah thanks Artemis, that really clears things up. When is the date that all decisions will be made by? If I got my seventh semester grades on January 15th, would that be too late?
