I know this is really stupid, but I'm going to ask anyway:

Do you have to ask the professor before you leave the classroom/lecture/etc. to go to the bathroom or if you're not feeling well or something? Or can you just leave?

I know that sounds stupid, but in high school we always had to ask. I would imagine that you DON'T have to ask, but in the same token, I don't want to just get up and walk out and have the professor stare at me like "W.T.F. are you doing!?"

Thanks... :-/

dont ask, and sit in the back if you tend to have bladder problems

From all the classes I have taken, you can just leave. In fact, if the Professor is lecturing and you interrupt just to ask if you may go to the bathroom, that is more rude than quietly stepping out.

I've done it any time I needed to, even for a phone call or whatever. Fact is, Professors dont care. Just get out and in quietly, no one should care.

I have one professor who deducts half a letter grade for every time someone leaves the class before he dismisses us. The rest don't care though.

If you are sick then it shouldn't be a huge deal. I've had profs that say that you better not even get out of your seat unless your sick. I've had others that don't care. I really think that they rather you leave to throw up than to do it in their classroom.

Don't interrupt. Unless there's a test going on, just go.

If you have a medical problem that may require you to go, let the professor know at the start of the semester if it's chronic and at the start of the class otherwise, and sit by the door. If you become ill unexpectedly, at least send an email apologizing afterwards.

If you just can't be bothered to take responsibility for planning your day so that you don't have to go to the bathroom in the middle of class, I don't suppose there's much I can say to dissuade you, but it's rude to your professor and to your classmates. And the only person responsible for making sure you know what happens in your absence is you, so you'd better make sure you make friends with people who are capable of taking good notes and willing to let you copy them.

I used to always raise my hand during my first term. But I stopped after that because I felt awkward always being the only one. No one in college cares; you're not a little kid anymore.

Most of my teachers don't care. The only class that I've ever had to ask permission is in ballet classes, and then it's only permitted in between barre and center. but i'm guessing most of you aren't dance majors haha. In modern we can usually run out if another group is dancing. In gen eds I've never had a teacher that wanted you to ask, just go.

I think since we're all legally adults, we shouldn't have to ask to do something that basic and necessary. I thought it was stupid even in middle and high school.

but also, since we're all legally adults, we ought to be able to sit through an hour long class without needing breaks. go before and after, and just sit through the class.

It has been some time since my college days, but during my four years at college I never left a class to go to the rest room; even if the door was open.

You can always leave without asking. Professors are in the middle of teaching, so they aren't really concerned with the details and they don't want class to slow down for everyone.

you're an adult..most professors will trust that it's necessary that you leave.

just don't sign the attendance sheet and leave immediately after ;)

I tend to go to the restroom during classes, more often during early morning. I hope my professors don't mind.

In my college, some of my professors on my first and second year from some general education classes would mind being late or leaving class too early, but other professors really did not care. From elective class no one professor has ever minded that.

I'm pretty sure you can just go lol, but that's a good question so don't feel dumb

If you're sick enough to think you're going to throw up or have to get to the bathroom in a hurry, you probably shouldn't be in class anyway. You're probably contagious with something and risk spreading it to all the students around you.
