whoa!!
you'll be all talked out by the time you get to the interview at USC (they dont do it till the Monday ).But you can actually relax at that one since you know you are guaranteed the finalist amount.
Seriously, you are going to have some serious packing issues(LOL only kidding)

I know...quite possibly. Packing is going to be hard....any suggestions? meh I guess I'll have to see how the travel arrangements work out. I'll be living at the Buffalo airport for a week. lol

Such great news GetOuttaBuffalo!!! So excited for you!

My wife got home, and nothing was waiting. She says the day's not over yet, but my feeling is, we would have got it this morning if we were going to get it.
It sounds like they sent it am delivery to everyone.

We'll hope for a Cooper now!

fingers crossed namtrag..you never know what can happen (as we well know in this house!)

hey, the odds were against us 1600:90 odds is not very good.

I have a client who does SAT prep courses. He said 1800 valedictorians applied to Princeton last year, and only 3 got accepted. Even worse odds.

Chin up. I am sure there will be a quite a few kids like Getouttabuffalo with multiple offers who end up taking another offer, so hopefully we will move up the food chain!

S won't even hear from W&M until April, so we have all the time in the world to hear from USC about any scholarships we might be getting.

Nothing here either, Namtrag. I wasn't sure how hopeful to be, but we were thinking S might have a shot... We also are counting on the in-state tuition as a BIG help.

Congratulations to all the McNair and Carolina finalists! You should be very proud!

I second that, here's to you, you worked hard for it, and deserve every penny of it!!!

Our other saving grace is that we live in Virginia, so even if USC instate tuition doesn't happen, at least we will have W&M or VT to fall back on.

I am pretty certain W&M is a safe bet since we are instate. But we have VT as our safety, that's a lock.

You may still get the package... but even if you don't, remember that there are other scholarships that are coming that also offer in-state tuition. Some of those are pretty sweet, too. The McKissick is $2000 and in-state tuition, making USC a very good deal.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for all of you that are waiting!

I got my letter today. My mother and the counselor's secretary were working against me and being very, very mean. But it made it so much better when she finally told me that the Fed Ex guy had just left. The secretary and I started screaming and hugging each other. It was fun.

I also got my letter today. Congratulations to the four or five of you who also heard the good news. And to the others, keep hope alive. USC still has other scholarships to send out (with the coveted in-state tuition rates).

congrats to better days and I'd Rather BeSating
just let me know if you need any info on the weekend/interview/Columbia/dress code, etc

cathymee,

the letter says that "McNair Scholars and finalists are eligible to receive a free laptop." This does not sound like everyone gets one (not that I'm unhappy with the other gifts!) What is your take? Thanks for your help.

All McNairs , Carolina"s and Leiber's (NMF) got the laptops.Last year it was a fully loaded IBM Thinkpad, with webcam, flashdrive, wireless, etc.Value of about $1200.00 It turned out to even have the business programs loaded that S needs for some computing class hes taking this semester...saved about 140$$.
You do not get the computer until you arrive on campus and you have to sign something saying you will not sell it. S was besides himself not having it ahead of time but he had it up and running in no time,
Maxcy has wireless access inside and outside on the Horseshoe. don't know about Capstones wreless status.
It was a sight to behold, being in the room where they were handing out the laptops..all stacked up!!
S was literally first on line waiting for the door to open!

To receive the free laptop, one must accept the invitation and enroll at USC= my best guess.

I guess I should have specified" arrive on campus for your freshman year" Garrity. They dont give it to you just for showing up for the interview weekend!!

Sorry-I am a very slow typer and was pecking away before I read your response. Congratulations to you and your family!

Congratulations to everyone who was chosen--I'm looking forward to meeting y'all at the end of the month. :)
It's definitely nice to know about McNair (my sister, a McNair senior currently at USC, definitely got tired of me calling her twice a day in anticipation) :p
Best of luck to everyone!
