I applied early decision and I don't know about other areas but in my area only the ones that submitted their application/supplement by 10/19 were qualified for interview. I submitted mine on the day before the deadline so I assumed I wasn't getting one.

My phone is weird and doesn't notify me when I get a voicemail. One day I decided to check my mailbox and I had 7 new messages.. And one of them was a duke alumni asking me to call her for an interview. That was like.. Two weeks before I checked it so basically I was already too late..

I don't know how the heck I got it and if I could get another one if I call the admissions office.. It wouldn't hurt, right?

You should also call the Duke alumna a.s.a.p. and explain what happened. She took the time out of her busy schedule to contact you; you owe her that courtesy. ED decisions went out in mid-December, so I'm assuming you were deferred to the RD pool if you're asking this question now. The interviews are fairly informal, so I'm not sure how much influence they have in the admissions process, but every little bit helps. Call!

My D applied RD to Duke long before the "deadline" and just got a phone call 5 minutes ago for an alum interview at his office for next week. So it is not too late! If Duke is your "1 choice, by all means call and let them know what happened with your voicemail. Good luck.
