I need some advice on what to do with my S.

Sorry sherrytk, that you are experiencing this.

I wouldn’t be certain that the white powder you discovered is cocaine. There are other drugs that are white and powdery including synthetic drugs like “bath salts” and some types of heroin. Heroin has made a big resurgence amongst affluent suburbanites the last few years. Don’t believe it?–google: heroin, chicago suburbs etc. Also, check out St. Louis, Boston, Minneapolis, etc. Plus heroin is available in much purer strains than in the past and that allows some users to forgo needles and to snort it or smoke it. That said, diagnosing exactly what your son is using is probably a fool’s game.

It is really important that your husband has been noticing that something is wrong.

My suggestions: call the dean of students at your son’s college. Maybe there are things going on there that he is aware of. Maybe he can help with a referral. I would not be concerned with the possible blow back from this. If you wanted to be anonymous at first, that would be understandable. But the sooner you can confront this honestly and opening, the better. Your son’s life is at stake.

I would hope you and your husband can get on the same page. I don’t think locking him out of college is the best first step. But just letting things go, and not confronting this possibly life threatening situation is absolutely not the answer.

Again, sorry, and best of luck.
