I need somebody to fill me in

It says that we have to complete IGECT and Prerequisites by the spring semester prior to transfer. And many UCs will send out admission notice around April.( correct me if it's wrong) However, in many community college, spring semester will not end until late May. How can they make their decision on admission if many student cannot submit the score for the classes they take in Spring( ends in May)? I'm confused by this procedure.

Is it okay if I have a big chunk of prerequisite that I will have to take in the spring before I transfer in Fall?

spring grades aren’t factored into admissions…
after being admitted, your admission is contingent upon maintenance of a certain semester / class GPA.

On the application you list the classes you’re taking your last spring semester. Once you’re admitted, you’ll have to submit your final grades, and if they’re drastically below the GPA you applied with, your acceptance may be revoked.

Well . . . it might depend on what you mean by “big chunk” and how competitive the schools you’re applying to are, as well as how impacted your major is. Everything is “okay” as in doable, but it can keep you from being accepted into an impacted major.

I was planning to apply for UCB for next Fall as a communication major. By now I finished almost everything for the major. If I keep my major I can sit back and breeze through the rest of months until transfer. However, I want to now change my major to physics. Yea, it sounds a little bit nuts. In that case, I will have to start to take a lot of math and physics classes during the next 2 to 3 semesters. And that leaves the very last spring semester (spring 2010)with a heavy load of important prerequisites. Will that lessen the chance of my admission?

by the way, I will somehow complete all prerequisites by spring 2010 except only one math class which I will take in summer 2010.

Talk to a Berkeley rep. Seriously, as many as you can. Also, is physics impacted? How many prereqs are there? How many will you be able to complete, total? How many will you be able to complete by the fall semester before transferring? I don’t think it will lessen your chance of admission so long as you at least PLAN on completing most/all of the prereqs, but of course it’s best to have as many as you can completed and graded by the time they’re making decisions in April. Also, be sure to explain that you changed your major on your application, maybe even go into why you decided physics was your passion, just so admissions knows whats up and doesn’t start wondering why you waited so long to begin taking your prerews. But really your best bet is to talk with counselors both at your current school and–if you can–Berkeley.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I will complete all prerequisites before I transfer. It’s just that many of the classes will be taken in spring 2010. And I won’t be able to submit my final score till late May which is after the admission making dates. I’m afraid they might not count me in favor because that my transcript is full of art major classes by fall 2009. Actually by fall 2009, I will be finishing 40% of the prerequisites for the new major, and that leaves a noticeable 60% Prereq which I can only take in spring 2010.

The hard thing is I have always loved both art and science, and I happen to do well in both. So it makes it very difficult for me to decide which major I want to go for. Until recently I realized that I can always keep art as my hobby and passion, but it would be better if I can major in hardcore science which is not so easy to be self-taught.
