I was rejected.

Tim, you are a manly man! Take it on the chin and go forward. Make the best out of your life. I'm deciding between Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, where I got accepted. If I choose Vanderbilt, I wish I could give you my Notre Dame seat. M

AC419,
St. Mary's has rolling admissions. Maybe they still have space? It's worth a call.

Tim,

I am sorry this did not work out for you this round. I know you will not give up on your dream. The following link is a to a truly inspirational lecture by a CMU prof about living your dreams. It is long and has been excerpted on Oprah but worth viewing in its entirety.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo

JVON, this is a blessing in disguise for you...

You wont have to face any really competition in interhall football. You are safe for one more year

Also how ironic are all of these Notre Dame vs Vandy threads? jeez

I honestly, very seriously, wish I could give you my seat (and I'm not even fully decided if IM taking it yet). Having someone as enthusiastic about the school as you are get rejected makes me feel so guilty for applying to so many schools. This admissions season was pure insanity. (if it's any consolation, I got rejected from the school I have wanted to go to since I was 8 as well)

I agree with everyone else in this post, I STONGLY suggest contacting your rep. I have been in very close contact with the admissions reps & the financial aid reps (though moreso with the finaid), and I can truly say that ND faculty really care. They really do. & it is evident that you have the spirit of ND in you, & they would be able to sense that.
Contact them, Tim. For us.

I have been talking to my rep.

I was outside of the top 3% at my school, which according to my rep forced me to be in the high 1400s to be "competitive".

Very disappointing conversation

That's stupid. I was in the top 1.5% at my high school and was waitlisted.

stooooopiiddd.

lol, hadda get that out.

admissions are a crapshoot. life isn't fair. immuna go hide in a corner :(

Especially when I go to the best high school in the state.... and my SAT was a 1400.

I hate to say it, but I think we were all wrong about the essay. Notre Dame needs the numbers.

Tim, I couldn't agree more strongly with your last statement. I really do think that ND looks first at numbers, and unfortunately, most people, unless they are specially tagged (athlete, URM, whatever) never make it into the "maybe" pile.

How many wonderful people do these schools skip over? Thousands.

I wish you the best of luck in your future.

I still think you will get in on sheer guts and determination, just maybe a year later than you wanted. Do you have access to the transfer website created by Irish a couple of years ago? It's incredible.

^Of course. It is amazing, and it will be a great tool for me.

Tim, you will get in if that is what you decide to do next year. I don't know what Notre Dame wants. At my son's HS, rank one and two were rejected and they had good, but not perfect, tests scores. College's admissions is a crap shoot, and unfortunately, I have to agree that Notre Dame's is about the worse and the most score dependent of them all. We all love the school but they need to take a good look at themselves with regards to admissions. Somewhere in a chat session is the line ( referring to EA) if your tests scores are not in the upper range of the previous year's accepted range, nothing class rank, EC's, 4.0 etc. will make up for that and you will be deferred. That statement says a lot about Notre Dame's focus on admissions.

Tim -

I think that you are focusing too much on your 1400 SAT score. Ir you look back at the accepted/rejected thread, one girl was waitlisted who had an SAT score of 1570/2300. There are other students with higher SATS than you who also got waitlisted or rejected. You are going to drive yourself crazy if you keep trying to find out the "right" reason why you were not accepted - as I stated before, I don't believe that you will be happy with any answer that you receive because you are very frustrated and upset right now and nothing will seem acceptable to you. I really don't think that there is a correct answer - if you look at each student's stats (whether they were accepted/rejected or waitlisted), one could make a case for every single one of them as to whether or not they should have been accepted. No one will ever know the specific reasons as to why a student was accepted or not so people should not waste their time trying to do so. I understand that attending Notre Dame has been a dream of yours for a very long time but you also know that there are no guarantees when it comes to college admissions (many people have shared their stories with you about exactly this fact).
I truly wish you the best of everything in your future and I really hope that you will find your happiness in whatever you decide to do.

woah woah woah,

I never said the my SAT score was good enough to get me in. I knew that I was below the average. I never said that my SAT score was amazing, but it was the reason I was rejected. Straight out of my rep's mouth. I was only saying that I wish they would have looked beyond the score, at the rest of my profile. I must have worded something poorly.

Sorry, Tim -

I misunderstood you. Perhaps Notre Dame should start having interviews as part of the application process - because then you could have really shown them why you deserve to be a student at their school. You were able to make your love for ND come through to all us on this board so can you imagine how well you would have done in an interview?!
Thinking good thoughts for you...!

An interview would have been amazing, I honestly think Notre Dame should give a more 'holistic' approach to their admissions.

My rep told me that I was a perfect match/fit for Notre Dame, and I wasn't rejected because they didn't doubt I would succeed, just that my test scores were too low.

AC419 -

You seem like such a sweet and positive person - you deserve everything that is being said to Tim to also be said to you. I hope that everything works out for you and that hopefully your dream of attending Notre Dame comes true - I will keep my fingers crossed for you. God Bless.

Tim,

Do you think that applying EA would have been better suited for you? I mean not to live in the past or anything, but what discouraged you from doing so if you like ND so much? Sorry JW.

Hey,

Um, I wanted to get my SAT scores up a bit by taking the SAT again in December. Notre Dame encourages only the best of the best to apply EA..unfortunately they do not take passion into consideration. So, being in the bottom 50% statistically... I decided to wait for RD

Tim your post was such a reflection of the great kid that you obvioulsy are and in my humble opinion it is Notre Dame's BIG loss! I know many who have had their hearts set on this or that college and D day came and it was a horrible and sad day for many of those kids who had envisioned themselves on a particular college campus for four long years, to have that dream literally pulled out from under them.
I want to say this, without going into too much detail.......someone I know who is actually someone I work for and is very connnected with Notre Dame got their daughter in the old fashioned way, money/power/connections. This girl has NO BUSINESS being there. It was a sad day to all who knew the situation when we found out she actually got in. Its a laughing joke. I lost so much respect for the school who no doubt passed up on many great and very highly qualified students (much like yourself) to give someone like her a shot. The other schools to which she applied at best were low level state schools and to see a school like N.Dame in the mix was just plain ol rediuclous. I know I am being very idealistic in thinking this doesn't exist or putting it down because it does, but it insenses me to think of all the very hard working kids who have busted their butts for four long years.

So in closing, it is THEIR LOSS 100%. Personally I think both BC and Vanderbilt far exceed N.Dame! They are amazing schools. Good luck to you!
