IB --> GPA translation

I'm a canadian in the IB program... I was wondering if someone could explain how IB scores (including bonus points) "translate" into a GPA... and how does the GPA system work, with "unweighted" and "weighted"

so, for example, what would a 41, 43, 44, (including bonus points) be in GPA...

thanks

you can't translate IB grades into a GPA. Are the only notes of achievement that come from your school the # on your IB exams? Do you have regular grades that have no effect on your IB score? That's what the GPA in the US measures. And with many different systems of GPA in the US, the best bet I can give you is you would have a "4.0 unweighted in the hardest schedule possible (and in the world)". In other words, all 'A's.

with scores like 41/43/44, you will be an extremely good candidate for top US schools, with no limits (HYPS, etc, all will be an option). Are you a november candidate? The may candidate scores don't come back in time to be used in college admissions processes for US schools. If you are a november candidate though, then the colleges will be able to get your scores in January most likely, which is when apps are due anyway at most schools.

/IB Diploma May '04

I'm a May '06 candidate... right now, (after only one term/semester), I have a "predicted" score; my predicted score eventually gets reported to universities... the "real" IB score, after the final examinations in May '06, gets reported too, but by that time universities will have already accepted/rejected... sometimes the real score ends of being higher than the predicted, and sometimes it's lower, but generally it's pretty accurate..

All marks at my school go towards the IB diploma... but we also are awarded the Ontario Secondary School diploma...

I don't know how to translate the 41, 43, 44 into GPA, but if you have letter grades, I could translate it for you in terms of unweighted.

For example, if you have all A's, your unweighted gpa will be 4.0 :)

In terms of weighted, it depends on the school you go to.
For instance, all A's in my school for IB is a 6.0 gpa.
While in others it might be 5.5, 5.00, or 4.5.

You have an A at 42. You have an A+ above that and an A- is 36-42. From there, I hope you can translate it into GPA.
