IB Maths studies -> ivy league ?

Hey guys !
Im currently a junior in a school with ib courses.
Well I never really was the type of person who loves maths...

And in my future I want to pursuit a job as a lawyer.

So I intend to major in Poli Science when I am getting into a college.
But now the question is whether they are going to accept me (IVY league) when Im taking Math Studies. Will it have any effect on my admission.

I know that the admission includes many factors.

What do you think ? Oh my HL levels are Economics,English and Spanish
Because then I have a higher chance to get a 6 or a 7 in maths studies so that my ib score increases

Thanks in advance !!

I feel inclined to answer but I have no idea what you are asking…

I think they’ll understand that you might be weaker in math. The fact that you’re taking IB already counts for a lot, so don’t worry about it. Anyway, it’s too late to change now, isn’t it?

Math studies, at least at my IB school, is generally viewed as a BS course. The stance from counselors and math teachers alike (at my school): Don’t take it unless you absolutely no other choice, especially if you want to get into a very selective school. Ivy League universities especially look for kids who are good at (and take challenging courses in) every subject, whether it’s your “thing” or not.

Since you don’t even have any sciences at HL, don’t take math studies. It makes you look flat out weak in math/science and significantly reduces your chances at admission. (Ivies generally prefer applicants to take up to calculus in high school.) IB Math SL is perfectly respectable, and it’s not much more difficult. You have to challenge yourself - without doing so, you have no shot at an Ivy whatsoever! Are you international? If you are, it’s even more important for you to take advanced math and science - international admissions are much more competitive.

By the way - I’m not a math person either. I want to work for the UN. I’m still taking IB Math HL.

I was wondering the same thing too! I had no choice because it was either Math Studies or HL and my counselors refuse to put me in HL because I couldn’t fit in AP calc this year (as a junior). But I’m taking another math course too, honors calculus (AP calc except i only get 1 credit instead of 1.5), to kind of balance it out.
