ID Acceptance Rates?

Is it more difficult to get into Rice ID than RD or ED?

I would imagine that Rice's ID program gets a comparatively large amount of applicants, including many elite applicants (ie the kind who would apply to Rice ID and a bunch of high Ivies RD), because it's practically the only top-tier college in the nation to offer ID. The fact that it's non-binding would only increase its popularity and lower its acceptance rate.

Also on an unrelated note...a friend of mine got a letter from Rice saying that Rice waives the admission fee for anyone who got NM Commended or better. I scored 232 so I'll be a seminfinalist, but haven't received any such letter...has anybody else heard anything about this?

My son got a application and letter in the mail this past weekend stating that they would waive the application fee. We live in Florida and he had a 226 PSAT. Before getting this letter he wasn't sure if he was going to apply. I think this may encourage hime to apply.

I got a letter waiving my fee, too. My PSAT was similar to yours. A few months ago the National Merit people sent out a form where you could list two colleges and the letter made reference to the fact that I listed Rice. I assume they waived the fee because I put down Rice, but I don't know if this is the case with kklicker's son. Maybe it's a general Commended thing.

I don't know much about acceptance rates, but ID does look very attractive because it's non-binding.

Oh, darn, I got the PSAT college referral thing but managed to completely forget about it until about a month after the due date...

Will Rice still waive the app fee? Not that it matters a whole lot really, because I'll be applying regardless, but who doesn't like free money?

And any comments about the original ID question would still be appreciated.

is this something new? my daughter got a a National Merit scholarship at Rice, along with a couple others, but I don't remember anything about not paying the app fee

My son got the same letter waiving the application fee. Unfortunately, it came 1 week after we sent in part I with a $50 check!

ricemom-
Maybe this is a new thing this year? My s. was a NM finalist and I don't recall seeing any letter waiving the app.fee. We paid it when we were visiting campus (fall of 2003)-- and my s is a sophomore (Hanszenite) this year. He LOVES Rice!
