If I'm rejected from my transfer schools...

Currently, I am a freshman attempting to transfer from the University of Massachusetts. This school is not a good fit, and I cannot come back here next year. I've applied to several schools and am waiting to hear back-but because nursing is so competitive, I have suggested that if I do not get accepted to any of them, I can attend the local community college and apply again for the next semester.
My mom is less than amicable to this suggestion, called community college "loser college" and said she didn't care because she wouldn't be paying and I wouldn't be welcome home. Currently, I'm keeping up a 3.6-I don't think I'm a loser, just someone trying to take control of my own happiness.
I do not think I'll be welcome home if transferring doesn't work out, so does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do next year? Any gap year programs, places where cost of living is relatively low and I could potentially find a job and an apartment?
   Thank you for your help!

Hi, My daughter needed to transfer from her first school with a major in nursing so we know how difficult it is to even get into a nursing program, never mind trying to transfer. When she wanted to transfer from Catholic U in Washington DC three years ago, there were few options, even with a great GPA, so I understand how stressful this is. She was accepted to NYU Nursing and had a fabulous experience! The NYU program might be worth looking into because they have a very large accelerated program where the students go two years straight. This is for those both with a degree and those without. She transferred in as a “traditional” nursing student, the four year option. Because there are far more accelerated students than traditional, perhaps there is a better chance of transfer in this program. She was able to get most of her credits transferred and took a few classes during that summer between the two schools to be on track with the other nursing students.
Really great program—she loved her time there even if it was in a city. We are from MA too, small town, but she was fine! They also have the option for nurses to go abroad for a semester, his is not always common.
I hope this helps. If you want to email us directly to discuss, you can let us know.
Not actually the info you were looking for, but they did take a lot of transfers there. If the deadline has passed for this Fall, I think there is a Spring option. Check out their website, and they were very helpful whenever I called on the phone. Nursing school is hard, but well worth the effort if you love it. The fit needs to be right, even if you need to leave for a semester.
Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I’ve applied to three schools-hopefully one of them wants me!

Great! Which ones did you apply to?
