If my UW GPA is okay, and my W GPA is bad..

My UW GPA is a 92 and my W GPA is a 95. The reason for that is because I didn't take any Honor classes during freshman yr and only 2 honor classes during my soph year.

My rank is 88/950. Students who also took Honor classes during F and soph yr had a much better W average--->like 99 or 100.

Am I going to get penalized because of that?

PS: All H/AP during junior and senior yr.

Unless you’re aiming for the top, you won’t be killed.

The reason why is because this sentence is gramatically incorrect.

You shouldn’t be at a crazy disadvantage. Since a lot of schools have such different weighting procedures, a lot of colleges will look at the unweighted GPA anyway.

yea I know there shouldn’t be “because” right? I’m so sorry.
So as long as my UW GPA is okay, I am fine right?

By the way, my school ranks the students based on their Weighted GPA.

Obviously you’re going to be at a disadvantage to the students who got the same grades as you and took honors courses all 4 years, but I think you can agree that’s fair. Your GPA is still quite impressive; I’m sure you’ll be able to get into a good college just fine.

^I applied to Cornell and NYU CAS…My GPA is still okay, right…even though my weighted GPA is not good at all at my school’s standard.

You’re still top 10% right?

What are your SAT and ACT scores?

Where else did you apply?

It’s not the end of the world…

but admissions will wonder why you didn’t take tougher courses fresh+soph year.

GPA is very good, and being in the top 10% of your class will help you at most schools. The most selective schools will take note of your Freshman & Sophomore course selection not because it hurts your GPA but because independently of GPA they’re looking for applicants who have taken every opportunity to challenge themselves academically. It helps that you’re taking more rigorous courses in your Junior & Senior years, but you’re likely to be at something of a disadvantage in comparison to students with the same GPA/class rank but who took a more challenging course load straight through HS. You could still get into some very good schools, though, especially if your SAT/ACT scores are strong and you have some good ECs, essays, and teacher recs.

holy moly, 950 people are in your class?! wow haha. and i thought the high school i attended was large…

but you’re in the top 10%, so you should be fine.
