Hey guys, I have to pick my classes now, and I was wondering whether I should pick the classes that complete my IGETC requirements first or the classes that Assist says are my major requirements? Thanks

Intertwine them together, ta-da!

Haha..yeah well..I have two years of CC before I can transfer..so I was just wondering which I should focus on. Cause I'm not gonna have enough classes/time to complete all of em anyways

What beardy said. But also try to focus more on your IGETC classes because you might change your major.

I think if you're set on a major look for classes that fulfill major and igetc requirements at the same time.

definitely pick classes for both at the same time cause some schools favor applicants who finish all their pre-reqs. but you shouldn't worry. 2 years is a long time, plus you have the advantage of taking some classes during the summer, right now and between the 2 years. i took all my pre-reqs in one year and 3 igetc classes in 2 semesters. i just took a lot of credit each semester, so you definitely have A LOT of time.

None of my classes for my pre-reqs are the same as the classes that i need for my IGETC reqs :(

EDIT: Also...I have a problem with my IGETC requirements. UCLA says it requires 2 classes for international studies, but assist comes up with nothing for SMC classes that fit htis criteria..

didnt read any responses, but there is no reason why you can't complete both within a 2 year time frame.

NO EXCUSES.

Try to get a mix of both but I would start with IGETC only because you may end up wanting to change your major later on.

kaidao - for igetc you do not use assist. in the agreement form for igetc it should list all the classes offered at your CC that satisfy a certain requirement. i think you should talk to a transfer counselor to plan out your courses for the next two years. that way you have a better sense of what you need to do, everyone here can only do so much but cannot tell you specifically what should be done

Are you serious? Biology majors have it pretty tough doing both IGETC and prereqs...
I'm applying without taking any of the physics series and I'm still loaded as it is. If you're planning to go on to med school or some other professional school, it might not be a good idea to do 2 years flat, especially if it is detrimental to your future application.
