Hey guys, whats the difference between following the 7 course breadth requirement with English composition, quantitative reasoning, and foreign lang and following IGETC?

With the IGETC you cover more GE requirements for different schools.
For the 7 course breadth you just satisfy Cal’s GE reqs.

IGETC is 11 classes I think?

The 7-course breadth pattern is accepted at all UCs, see [California community college transfers](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/transfer/requirements/community-college/index.html). It is an alternative for students who do not qualify or need IGETC. Since IGETC is only available through CCC, out-of-state and 4-year college transfers may follow the 7-course breadth pattern. Certain majors also discourage IGETC (such as engineering), in which case the student should follow the 7-course breadth pattern.

What’s weird is that there’s a 7 course pattern for UC transfer eligibility AND for the college of letters and sciences. Does the one for letters and sciences need to be completed by the time of transfer? There is some inconsistency because assist and uc berkeley’s website says no, but I called an admission officer at berkeley and she said yes…

The UC transfer eligibility is the baseline that you have to complete to be eligible for admission consideration. Completing the L&S requirement will make you competitive for majors in L&S. Of course it’s to your advantage to complete both, but you must complete the minimum (UC transfer eligibility) to be considered.
