I am so scared and anxious.

I'm a senior at UCR (I transferred in Fall 2011) but I haven't turned in my IGETC yet. I know I am very late. I was expecting to graduate this Spring but I just learned from my CC that I am missing 2 classes from area 3 (art and humanities section) on my IGETC. I was wondering if this will slow me down big time in graduating this year or will just slow me a little bit. I will be done with all my degree classes this Spring but I am still missing those 2 art classes from my IGETC. Can I take the art classes at UCR during the summer and graduate this Summer or Fall?

If I submit my partial IGETC that is missing 2 classes from area 3, will they accept it and only ask that I take the 2 art classes that is left? Or will they tell me to finish the UC breadth requirements instead? Which I think will take much longer cause I have to take all the college foreign language.

Well, technically, since you are missing those 3 classes that satisfy IGETC, you don’t qualify for IGETC. That is until you finish all the requirements.

I’m missing 2 classes actually. I was wondering though if they will let me finish the missing classes at the UC campus and then turn in my IGETC the quarter I graduate.

Oh I see what you mean. Unfortunately, I don’t know but I highly suggest asking your counselor for a more accurate information.

That’s not how it works. The IGETC is a transfer agreement between community colleges to UC. If you finish the IGETC, then the campus can say you don’t have to take any GE’s to graduate.

If you didn’t finish the IGETC before you transfer, then you have to finish the campus set of general education requirements to graduate.

How can you be a senior and not know that?

@Lookin4ward

Well…when I transferred they said to just bring the IGETC when you can. I was afraid that I might have to follow the campus set but I know a few people at UCR who didn’t finish their IGETC but was able to take the classes at UCR to graduate.

On the University of California website it states this:

Partial credit
Students who do not complete IGETC before transferring will be required to satisfy the specific lower-division general education/breadth requirements of the UC college or school they attend. However, California community colleges may grant partial certification of IGETC to students who are missing no more than two requirements. Students submitting partial IGETC certification should complete the missing requirements at either UC or a California community college as designated by their department. Students who have been granted partial IGETC certification should not return to the community college for a full certification.

I fall in the category of missing 2 requirements, so I can get my partial IGETC and then take the missing classes at UCR right?

I will talk to my counselor tomorrow.

yes and it also depends on your major.

Check on asset and see what it says. I applied as an engineering major, will be IGETC certified, but it says this on the assist website:

Lower division major preparation should be prioritized ahead of completion of
IGETC or College breadth requirements. The Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE)
accepts completion of IGETC as satisfying the majority of the college’s breadth
requirements for transfer students. Some additional breadth coursework may be
required after enrollment at Bourns. For more information on BCOE breadth
requirements, go to http://student.engr.ucr.edu/breadth.html

so depending on your major, you might have MORE classes than just those 2.

Doesn’t seem to hard to do. Follow your grad pattern for you major and just check off the classes that you did at CC that fill those spots. Humanities, Art, Social Science…and see what you have left.

Cool, you’ve made me less nervous. Thanks for all the help.

I’m seeing my counselor today at 3:30pm PST. The only think that worried me was the 4 quarters of foreign language. But since I have a partial IGETC and my foreign language there was fulfilled from high school, I think I won’t need to take foreign language at UC right? Just the breadth requirements that I haven’t done yet and the 2 missing IGETC classes?

Oh well I’ll get my answer later today and I’ll update everyone here.

let us know. It could help future students that will attend UCR
