With stats like that, why not a better school???

While I freely admit that IU started out as a pure safety, they are working are to get my D. 28K Faculty award. That makes IU no more expensive than our state university. Offered spot in Honors College. (Applied for Honors College scholarship; still waiting to hear.) Offered direct admit to College of Arts & Sciences. IU's Music program is an attraction. She's applied to six other schools. Believe it or not, her GPA may keep her out of our top state university.

I know you live outside DC so that could be state school of various which is it?

UVA. D was deferred on ED.

so you still don't know.........I see.

Wow, they must really be targeting the top OOSers. I'm having the same situation with merblajam, can't yet get into my top in-state public school, got deferred, applied to IU as a safety, they're hitting me with scholarships, direct admission to my major, etc. And people are starting to realize IU's strengths, high Peer Assessment rating, beautiful campus, very strong programs, great college experience. This will be a school on the rise.

The school is buying in talent as a way to raise the standard.

and the cartoon in the Indiana Daily Student:

I tink its really gud, IU is doing this. in the long run, if they want to get better and higher up in the rankings, they gota raise the standards and invest in kids with higher stats. ( top Indiana kids and top oos kids). i tink its pretty weird, wen i first researched IU last year, the school didnt feel like it had much things going on and it was prety mellow and now its like the whole academic structure and direction of the school is changing and their trying to be more aggressive and serious. its cool :) hope they dont burn out! besides im sure it benefits most of us eh? lol

I raised my GPA to a 3.85 this semester so im hoping i get some sort of scholorship now, and then I be excited about going to Indiana. Right now I have no money so not really all that enticing even though money isnt a huge issue.
