SAT scores: (here is where it's bad)-
Critical Reading 610
Math 590
Writing 710

School I want to get into: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Should I retake the SAT in October?

Thanks a lot!

edit: for career, I'm thinking of either pharmacy or dental.

I would retake. I think a 710 in writing at least suggests that you could get the CR up.

Two questions: Do you live in North Carolina? What kind of prep did you do for the SAT?

I do live in North Carolina.

I did no prep for the SAT, and it was the weekend before my final exams.

edit: the CR was in the mid. range for UNC, it’s mainly the math I’m worried about.

edit again: I’m a Caucasian female.

Get one of those study books, do a lot of practice questions in math, then stop studying a week before the SATs. Make sure you get a ton of sleep.

Good luck!

I agree–do some prep and take the SAT again. You might improve significantly, and then you might start thinking about Duke.

“I agree–do some prep and take the SAT again. You might improve significantly, and then you might start thinking about Duke.”

Honestly, I’d only go to Duke if I got a MAJOR scholarship. How likely do you think that would be, considering my stats? With my math SAT as current, do you think UNC is fair game?

for some reason it won’t let me edit it, but I forgot to add that I’m in National honors society my junior and senior year and Spanish Honors society my soph, jr, and sr year.

If you’re talking about merit aid, probably not extremely likely. But make sure you look at need-based aid wherever you are considering applying.

ok, thanks for the chances so far! would I still benefit from retaking the SAT’s in Oct. when EA deadline is Nov. 1st? Abt financial aid, my family’s income is, I’d say middle class. My dad is an optometrist and my mom works out of the house for him.

you’re in UNC

Just a question, would it be better for me to take the Math SAT subject test? I really don’t want to sit through the writing or reading again…

I’d say you have a good chance if you can just raise your SAT scores.

Agreed. I think you have a very good shot at an acceptance, especially if you can raise your SAT, which it seems you are very capable of doing. Without increase in your SAT (50-60 %) and with (80-90%), depending on how much higher it is. Have you taken any SAT IIs yet? What are your AP scores?

I have not taken any SAT II’s yet. I was thinking of taking Chem in Oct. However, I don’t think I could handle taking BOTH the SAT and a subject test, so which would look better?

Also, I wasn’t planning on calling in for my AP scores, so I haven’t received them yet…should I have by now?

Does UNC require SAT IIs? How about other schools where you are interested in applying? Sorry, but you may need to both retake the SAT and take some SAT IIs. You can’t do that on the same test date, though.

UNC does not require SAT II’s. I was planning on EA, so should I take the SAT II’s to look good, or the SAT to improve my stats?

The other schools I think I can get into as is (NC State, Wake Forest, Campbell University) although, if 'yall wouldn’t mind, could you chance me for those also? Thanks a lot.

yes, retake your SATS- the 590 will hold you back from a lot of good schools,.

But will the 590 hold me back from UNC and NC State? I mean, honestly, if I get a 630 or something of the sort will it make THAT much of a difference?

bummmmmmmp.

your very lucky in that your an in-state applicant…def. retake the SAT’s and try to raise your math and cr scores by 100 points each and I’d say your good
