In case you missed the announcement ...

Default seems to be to send emails for everything. Might want to check your settings and turn most of those off before this “feature” starts working.

I get a blank screen with Chrome :stuck_out_tongue:

The posts aren’t numbered anymore. That’s a big mistake. We often write something and refer to another post by its post number.

When I am reading a thread and am not logged in, then decide to post, logging in kicks me back to the main forum page (not the thread I wanted to post on). I tried logging in at the top, and also via the “sign in” link right under the last post. This should also be added to the list to change. I work in the IT industry, and have to say – more thorough “user acceptance testing” would have been a good idea.

I really don’t like it. I don’t think I’ll be visiting as often. OH well, more time for me. I believe this has been designed to be optimized for the mobile screen first. Tablets seconds. Thus the white space, etc. I think it’s called “responsive design” so the site adapts to the users tool (phone, tablet or computer). But since the phone screen is so small, they have to design it from phone backwards. (Some sites have a computer site and then a mobile or wap site separate.) Responsive design uses one web site for all.

Thats on the long list of concerns, m2ck. Might be helpful to merge all the threads on this topic so there is less redundancy?

1) I have 5" of white space on each side of my screen. What a waste. Agree with others that the blocking of posts is preferable.
2) Would like to see posters’ names in larger type so I can tell who I’m reading.
3) On the list of threads, would like to SEE the time stamp for most recent posts; it comes up when I roll over the date posted, but do not want to have to work that hard to check most recent posts.
4) Number the bloody posts!!!

OTOH, I see that Cafe posts are now counted (or I posted 2300 posts overnight) and editing time is now an hour. These are good improvements.

Overall, though, this is not a user-friendly update.

This is obviously set up for the younger folks … I am really having trouble handling the new format. I liked the clean, straightforward style of the “old” CC.

You can replace the “logo” with an avatar (picture). I have guinea pigs, although dogs are proving much more popular. I do see mostly black typeface (at least the posts are showing up as black). There is quite a bit of blue on the side menus and other places, though. There are some other threads going where people are talking about all this… one of the mods said they are looking at the whitespace (and maybe the font?) issues, but as an IT person myself my guess is that might take a little while to fix and test out if they do decide to change it.

Any chance this post could be put in the thread that is already discussing the new format?

And FYI…the little flag to report posts does NOT work.

I’m getting the guru Meditation error on Chrome as well. Also, how do a subscribe to a particular college’s forum. I only see where you can make a thread a favorite.

Can someone explain whether only you can link what you write to FB, or can others link what I write as well? If so, that creeps me out and I’ll become more of a lurker … 8-X < wanted to use this in case it ever goes away

I will never understand why a site that gets a lot of traffic, is full of active posters, and rarely has an outage thinks it needs a redesign. It’s the failing sites that might be helped by a new design, but successful sites like this one will only alienate long-term users. Please note that I am not anti-change. It’s just that I think change should be beneficial and this one isn’t.

Not liking. And I don’t think this is an age issue. The Facebook link is creepy and I still cannot see thread titles so finding anything would take literally forever. Another bad habit may just be broken. Sorry.

There’s a lot of blue. I am getting a migraine from being on here even for a few minutes! I have been on here for 7 years but will have to leave if any of the light blue remains.

I posted elsewhere that the light blue color and smaller print are hard to handle for older posters and those with migraines etc. If it stays like this, I will leave after 7 years on here. Maybe that’s not a bad thing, but I enjoy CC and think it provides a useful service.

I agree. I’m unsure this is an age issue. Haven’t had a chance to see what CC look like on a computer. From what people have been saying, I’m worried…

The layout is nice on mobile, but on a computer it’s annoying.
I understand CC is doing it for the teens (like me) but it’s not working. It needs more definitions.
The color scheme doesn’t match this type of open layout.

And yeah, why is 1/3 of the page not being used.
I must admit that the post count, the like/helpful, and notifications are nice additions though.

They also need to check discussion threads. Wash U says “no discussion” threads. Really? There were some there two days ago. On the alphabetical list of colleges - no longer shows when a thread is updated. Miss that feature a lot.

UNHAPPY!
