i took the SAT for my third time in November
when i got my score i was really disappointed as i was expecting a 800 in math and 680 to low 700s CR score
I had taken 2 practice tests from the blue book the week before the test and felt really confident because i did really well in the reading section of both of them and got in the high 600s to low 700s range on CR and 800 on math
my november scores were: 750 M, 610 CR, 690 Wr
my other 2 SATs were: 710 M, 580 CR, 720 Wr and 710 M, 620 CR, 630 Wr
i am applying to top 15 schools
i know my CR score puts me in a very disadvantaged position when applying to top 5 programs but even for all my other schools i am slightly below their 25 percentile of admitted students
should i take the SAT a fourth time in Dec. while risking the fact that if i dont improve my CR score by at least 40 points, it will look bad on my apps and even worse if i don't improve at all or get a lower score???
i only have 2 days to decide before the test so any feedback will help out a lot

I would retake...most schools take the highest from each section.

And 10 schools is WAY too many to apply to.

Your scores are so consistent that it's doubtful that you will improve much if you retake for a fourth time. I recommend concentrating instead of making your application more distinguished in other ways.

Holy crap man I see a lot of reaches.. (like stanford, hopkins (maybe not), harvard, U penn, Duke, Emory (maybe again), Wash U (maybe again.. this is getting annoying isnt it) and Uva if not in state..... get some matches/safetys and remove some of those

UNLESS

You have like a 23.0 gpa and like the best EC's ever known to man. Well like a 4.0 and EC's that have some good recognition and some great comittion of time alotted to them.

the other parts of my application are very good as I have a 4.1 on a 4.3 scale cumulative gpa and have taken the hardest courses possible at a competative private school
i have various leadership ECs
I have had my english teacher and the director of my school's writing center, both who have a lot of experience with college essays, read them and they said my essays were great
my recs should be really good as well
overall, other than my SAT I scores, i feel my application as a whole is strong enough to at least get me into a few of my non-super reach schools
HOWEVER i did not mean for this to become a chances thread
i just want to know if it would be worth it to take a gamble and take the test a fourth time at least to improve my CR score

screw the people not telling you to retake. retake the 4th time if you can improve.

but, considering i guess you werent really preparing for DEC i dont think you will do too well.

what you should do is send your 3rd sat scores to all the schools you are applying and jsut take the 4th SAT without sending any scores. If they improve, you send them out, if not nothing happens.

Oh crap lol. I didnt even read the topic title. Yes retake it. But maybe do it in january and use barrons 3500 word list..

january is not a choice since the last date to take the SAT for senoirs is Dec if i remember correctly

What have you done in terms of prepping? I'd say forget about the other two sections and focus entirely on CR for the next couple of days. Do practice tests. Focus on your weaker section (sentence completions vs. passages) and go through explanations to solutions in PR.

If you don't have time to prep or have not prepped previously, there's really no point in trying again.

i did prep a lot this summer and then prepped for a couple of weeks before the nov. SAT and i got scores above 700 on last two tests i took from the blue book before i took the nov. SAT
however, I have not done any prepping after that and I am taking just the CR portion of a test from the blue book tonight to see if there is still a chance for me to significantly boost my CR score

i just finished taking only the CR portion of a practice SAT in the blue book and got a raw score of 55 which is estimated to be about a 670
how does this look now?
i might take another CR portion of a blue book test tomorrow but I think im going to give the Dec SAT a shot and see if i feel good about the passages
and if i dont feel i connected well enough with the passages, i will cancel the scores

I meant between your last SAT and now.

Never hurts to give it a shot and get a feel for it on Sat. However, I was very happy with my CR sections last time, and it dropped by 30 points from my previous time. I wouldn't trust anyone's instincts to cancel scores - just get them processed unless you leave an entire section blank.

I'd say spend less time on here worrying about it and just focus on prepping!
