So my top three schools that I've gotten into are Indiana University, University of Arizona and University of Colorado - Boulder.

I don't know which one to pick, and was wondering if people could just post their opinions of each school on here.
I like to have fun, but I do not like to party all the time, and I'd like to go to school with people who can at least form like a basic , intelligent sentence.

Yes, the major makes a difference. For example, I’d pick Indiana for business, journalism, language studies or music, but pick Colorado for astronomy and probably for physics, and pick Arizona for agricultural economics, geosciences, and metallurgical studies.

if you want to major in business i would choose Indiana. if your not a direct admit to the Kelley School than I would reconsider your college choice. gaining acceptance to kelley school after your freshmen year is getting extremely competitive each year you will have to manage your time well with studying and partying. if you want to successfully gain acceptance to the kelley school you will have to buckle down and do work freshmen year.

you will have tons of fun at each state school.

It is very likely that Kelley would raise the criteria for DA next year. Are there statistics showing how are the DA’ed students doing relative to the standard admitted students over the years?

I fully expect Kelley to raise the criteria for both DA and Standard Admitted students each year to become more competitive with other top undergraduate business schools. At the end of the day westernbohemian if you are passionate about business, willing to put in the hard work, and make sacrifices the first year ex. spending less time partying, socializing. you will certainty do well and gain acceptance to the Kelley School sophomore year.

However, if you want to join the greek system, party at least twice a week every weekend, it will be more challenging for you to gain acceptance to the Kelley School.

Ace550, no there are no statistics tha show how DA students do relative to the standard admitted students over the years. However, as a former Kelley student I can assure you if we selected 10 DA students and 10 standard admitted students we would find more maturity and passionate students in the DA pool.

Approximately 120 students gain acceptance into the business honors program beginning sophomore year. and as a former student in the honors program I would say about 100 are DA while the rest are standard admits.

I doubt if there is much difference between direct admits and standard admits to Kelley in graduation rates. Once you get into the Kelley, it is very difficult to flunk out. A lot of people might change their majors from accounting or finance to something easier like management or BEPP, but they tend not to flunk out. As an example, 1100 students took I-Core last Fall, and probably less than ten flunked it. So, once, you are accepted and complete the I-Core prerequisites, less than 1% don’t get through I-Core each semester, and some of these students probably re-take it and pass later on.

The more relevant question is getting into Kelley. It gets more difficult each year for standard admits, as each class has more direct admits, therefore leaving fewer slots for non-direct admits to compete for. Incoming freshmen IU students the last four or five years have had significantly higher standardized test scores, and a lot of this group is headed for Kelley as direct admits.

Thanks for the advice. Please help to confirm/correct the following:

1) There are nearly 1000 students (DA & SA) each year admitted into Kelly. That seems to be a very large number.
2) Honor students are about 10% of the total population.
3) When do students decide on the majors?
4) What are the admission criteria for Accounting and Finances Majors?
5) Do students change majors to avoid the difficulties from major-specific courses?

Yes, it is a big school (which means a big alumni base)

Yes, about 10% of business students get into the business honors program. There is a general honors program as well, and everyone can get in as long as they have a 3.7+ GPA

You need to declare your major at the end of first semester junior year (but you can declare it earlier and change it (as long as it is w/in the same school)).

Same as all other business majors.

A lot of accounting majors switch majors after dropping out of A311. I haven’t heard of any other class causing people to switch majors (but I do hear a lot of finance majors get discouraged after taking F370).

I think Kelley is about 1200-1300 in each of the soph-senior classes. 1200-1300 have taken I-Core each of the last two years. Business honors I-Core has been 157 each of the last two years, and a lot lower than that in previous years. I think Kelley has increased the size of business honors to include the higher caliber of students they are getting in the automatic scholarships era.

Maybe the number changes, because the grade reports list the number of people taking honor I-Core as 157 in Fall 2008 and 147 in Fall 2009. I thought all the honors students took I-Core (F304, I304, J304, M304, P304) together the same year. Some of the resumes for IBW members say the class of 2011 was business honors was 150. Maybe they cut back to 130 for the class of 2012.

Does anyone have knowledge about the petitioning process in order to be a direct admit? I submitted my application on the 5th of this month in hopes of getting a spot. I have a 3.6 GPA and a 29 ACT, only .1 away from the GPA requirement. I’m just wondering what my shot is at becoming a DA.
