did anybody here go to the reception in san francisco today?

I went to the one today. It was nice and they did tell us we are all accepted. They talked about the campus and academics for a bit, then the rest of the time was all Q&A.

oh, thanks for telling^^

what was everyone wearing?

tuxedos/suits

No, this is not true at all. I'm no where near top 12.5% or ELC, I'm more like top 25% or top 50%, and I got the invitation too. My UC GPA is a 3.62. There are definitely other factors that are taken into account.

A lot of people just wore jeans and a nice button down shirt. Some people wore shorts and a t-shirt, and some wore like slacks and tie. For girls it was just nice jeans and blouse or something.

i went to the san jose one today. it was great, although it was kinda long. the chancellor seemed very friendly XD

I'm kind of confused. I got an ELC notification a couple months ago guaranteeing me admission to UCSB so how come I didn't get an invite? One of my friends did but my other friends who also got the ELC didn't receive an invitation either.

ELC doesn't make you a top applicant. Think about why that could be. ELC is intended to help kids from schools with lower profiles to stand out within the context of the education that was available to them. Some students take way more AP or college courses. They too have an equal GPA but the rigor of schedule, SAT scores, EC's and GPA are all taken into account. This process is much more complicated than GPA. Admissions knows the profiles of the schools and this is also taken into consideration.

I don't want to make it seem like my friend isn't qualified or anything, but we go to the same school and I have taken a much more rigorous course schedule and I think I got higher test scores. Are there any other factors that determine someone as "top applicant"?

I'm not sure, but your background or things u talked about in your personal statements might be a factor, because my GPA and test scores dont make me standout at all (about 3.5 or 3.6 unweighted and 1750), but i mentioned in my essays about my experiences with moving and going to schools in different countries and my struggles in those school years lol.

Possible factors:
GPA
SAT 1
SAT 2's
rigor of schedule (including number of a-g courses, AP's, honors courses, community college courses)
EC's
leadership
awards
family income
fee waiver applicant
first generation to college
family hardship
major choice
information revealed in applicant essays

fee waiver applicant is a factor? would being one hurt or help you?

no i doesnt i had a fee waiver and i got an invitation.

It is helpful if the admissions views you as a person who succeeded in spite of financial hardship.

ooo okay, thanks.
costa mesa on sunday woot!

i registered but i recently made plans to watch the matrix trilogy all day saturday so i dont think i can go

Last year me and my friend got the same thing in the mail and we later found out we were both accepted.
