Is Anyone Going to Watch the ABC Show "The Scholar"?

http://abc.go.com/primetime/scholar/show.html

It's about high school seniors competing to win college scholarship money (wish I could do that).

I want to watch it, because it's was filmed at the university I'll be at this fall. :)

It really does look interesting though.

No. This show sounds like a bunch of old, crusty television executives trying to capitalize on America's obsession with getting into "top schools." Great, let’s take the idea behind that one show with Trump and turn it into a college competition. Fantastic!

Not.

"America's obsession with getting into "top schools.""

College Confidential Discussion forums are about American students obsessing over getting into "top schools." This is a forum in which kids REGULARLY list stats like 4.0 GPAs and SATs in the 1500s, and obsess over whether Penn or Stanford or Yale will accept them. This is a forum in which I've seen people laugh over state schools, because they're considered-- direct quote-- "third tier trash." I have seen a respectable school like UC San Diego called "third tier trash", and schools ranked above the top twenty-five disregarded immediately at first mention.

You're not going to watch kids try to get into top schools? Sure, fine. But it seems to personally be an issue for you, isn't it? Isn't that why you even found this college forum?

I don't think it's a stretch to say that the vast majority of people on College Confidential are not your average kid set on getting into a decent LAC or a state university. These people want Ivies or top LACs.

It seems hypocritical to disparage the plot of the show when most people here are the same way-- obsessed with top schools.

"a bunch of old, crusty television executives"

Right, like there are any other kind?

You don't have to be so damn sarcastic, you know. I didn't say it was the most original show, I just said it looked interesting-- because all of us are also interested in colleges.

cannendnish i am not watching it to support your reason which is very true; peals my friend u are very blind to the fact many ppl lie on these boards, u can find inconsisties with the number of posts or previous posts by some users

^ dats so right. Even if ALL the stats were real, people who come to CC only make up what, .001% of the actual college bound people

I'll probably end up watching it...I wonder if anyone from CC will actually be on the show?

i heard at least one person on CC will be on the show but i dont know who it is

wholeheartedly agree with cannednish

Even if what cannednish said is true: "old, crusty television executives trying to capitalize on America's obsession with getting into "top schools."" Those executives are obviously onto something - I mean, look at this website and all its members! And I bet that those executives went to some of the top schools too.

It's just another one of those season-long spinoffs of the Apprentice. That and Hell's kitchen are both gonna probably flop.

I will be watching. One of the girls on the show is in my AP chem class. She is really smart. I also know one of the guys through a mutual friend (but I dont know him personally).

I think its funny that the prize is a full ride to the school or thier choice. Since all of the contestants are "economically-disadvataged", won't they be getting full-rides anyways?!

I would gladly be a contestant on that show though:)

Yeah, what KB said...probably all of them are completely covered for FAFSA...

how are they exactly going to be "competing" anyways?

Seriously, that's a good question; how will they be competing?

One of the contestants goes to my school. Actually, he's a friend of mine. He's a pretty big drinker and partier but a genius nonetheless.

Definatly be watching it! xD

Absolutely not

Oh, and I was asked to audition for the show - I decided not to. The college application and scholarship process is horrible enough without it being nationally televised. I remember the hardest interview panel I have had to face (a faculty panel when I was applying for an Honors Scholarship at Washington and Lee University) and the thought of dealing with it on national tv is just scary.

Dima, that's pretty cool! Hhhhmmm I wonder what you look like. [Begins to wonder]
