Is Early Decision right for me?

Hello everyone,
So I am debating on submitting an early decision application. I have a 3.2 GPA and (June) SAT of 1150. I am going to be auditioning for acting BFA. I am debating between Ithaca and NYU. Ithaca I can get in easier academically, because I know NYU is a huge reach. But I was wondering if applying to acting (grades are only weighted 50%) and early decision with a good audition, do I have a shot at NYU? or should I stay with ithaca?

Can you pay the full $76K/year? If so go ahead and apply ED. If you need to compare FA offers then don’t go ED (and don’t expect much from NYU).

Thanks for the advice, but do you think I would have a chance at getting into NYU or would it be a no ED or RD?

Based on this data your chances are very low. https://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/institutionalResearch/documents/CDS%202014-2015.pdf (section C). According to NYU ED makes no difference in admission chance vs. RD.

I think your case is a little different, because you’re applying specifically for acting, in which case your grades are going to be looked at less than your arts ability. If you’re certain you want to go to NYU, you should apply ED (see my note on that below though for a slight drawback to that plan).

@“Erin’s Dad” is correct though in asking whether or not you can afford full whack, since in ED you cannot compare financial aid offers.
