Is East Quad that great? or enter the lottery?

Our family isn't sure if East Quad is a great dorm for a freshman or not. Thanks.

Well, East Quad, which was recently remodeled, has air conditioning, and it’s in a good location. The size of the rooms can go either way; one of my friends had a huge double, but others have had tiny ones. There are a lot of freshmen in that dorm, so those who live there will be among other new students. To my mind, it doesn’t have too many drawbacks.

My son is in the Residential College so he’ll be in East Quad. When we went for accepted students day, we got a personalized tour by someone else from our high school who was a freshman there. She was in one of the smaller doubles but the way they configured their furniture, they made enough space to fit a futon in there too. The flooring is beautiful, the air conditioning is definitely a bonus and the young woman who visited with us was very happy there as a freshman. They were very excited that a new froyo place opened in the dorm that year!

I was under the impression a lot of dorms have been remodeled recently? And I assume all of the remodeled dorms offer the exact same comfort and amenitites. Or perhaps the odds of a freshman getting into a remodeled and good location dorm through the lottery are quite slim?

Aside from room size, are there any other draw backs to east quad?

South Quad will be reopened after renovation this year, however, it would not have air conditioning. So the comfort level may not be the same even among renovated dorms. If you are not part of any MLC, you will have around 70% chance to be put in the North Campus. Chance for male students going North will be higher too.

Hm. Are South and East the only two big renovated dorms? Also, are Central and the Hill neighborhoods pretty much a wash, location-wise or is one more ideal than the other as a freshman?

Mojo was renovated a few years back, and so was Couzens, but I can’t remember if Couzens takes freshmen. Mojo definitely does; however, it’s heavily MLC, so those outside such communities will have a harder time getting in. Alice Lloyd is the same.

Central is always slightly more ideal for any freshman, but walking an extra three minutes to class from the Hill won’t kill anyone.

east quad is pretty great.if you wouldnt be getting anything on the hill, east quad is still really good. south quad is newly renovated but the dorm rooms arent so no AC unlike east and the hill dorms
