Is everyone deciding late this year?

Looking at the final decisions thread, there seem to be many outstanding decisions. Is everyone waiting until the last minute this year? (Or is this the normal last minute crush?)

Quick reminder - May 1st is a Sunday this year so the tuition deposits have to be postmarked by Saturday. For one of our schools, the deposit actually has to be received by May 1st.

Judging from past years, we are not going to have a real high response rate for decisions. Lots of people just never get back to us. I don’t think you can take it as an indication that everyone is deciding at the last minute.

Hartt’s letter said you have until May 2. I think my D’s other letters still said May 1. Our decision is already made. Feels good to get past that part of the process!

Too bad BassDad…after all the tremendous work you do, I hope that everyone puts closure on the Final decisions list! I love watching the list grow and reading about the thought processes involved from picking the schools to audition at all the way to the final decisions. The talent this board attracts is really amazing and your hard work is certainly a big contributor to that! Thanks again!

We are still in decision mode. I think, deep down, S has made his choice, but is having a hard time saying “no” to a school he thought for a long time might be a top pick.

I hope more people do post final decisions. I found it helpful to PM posters to learn about their decision making process.

Good luck to all those students and parents still trying to decide.

My D is trying to decide between CMU for VP and Westminster CC. She wants to pursue opera. Which program would provide better preparation? Any help with this is appreciated as the deadline is May 1st!

Dyeedee, please do NOT worry about preparation for “opera” at this point in time. Your D is young, voices change and the most important thing is which teacher is right for her. Both schools are good, but her relationship with the teacher has to be built on trust. Has she had lessons with teachers at both schools? Which “feels” better for her, in terms of teaching style, comfort, etc? Which has a studio group that works for her?
Again, college music programs are very different from HS, and it’s pretty much back to square one for young singers. New regimes, new technique, un-learning incorrect habits, etc. Focus only on the teacher right now.
Good luck and let us know her choice!
