The time to select classes for Junior Year is coming up for me, and I plan on taking four AP classes. The classes that I would like to take are AP United States History, AP European History, AP Biology, and AP Statistics. Will my workload be too heavy and stressful? I should also mention that I’ll be preparing for the SAT and PSAT. I understand that the history classes require a lot of reading, and biology is a lot of memorization. History comes naturally to me, and I don’t find it hard. Biology is also very enjoyable for me as I find it interesting. Despite not being good at math, I want to take AP Statistics because of how useful it is. I should also add that I will also be taking English 11 Honors and Algebra II Regents. So what do you think? Is this schedule doable? And if not, which class should I take out. A response would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
My DS took lots of APs but APUSH was the most time consuming of them all. I would not recommend two history APs in the same year no matter how much you love it.
"AP United States History, AP European History, "
Do not take both of these. Either one will be a HUGE time sync. If you love history, pick one.
Only take one of those histories at a time. Take the other senior year.
Why AP Statistics? Have you taken Pre-calc? Don’t worry about APs more than just getting as far as you can in the normal math sequence (Alg 1, Geometry, Alg 2, Pre calc, Calc).
Have you taken Bio, Chem and Physics? Make sure you take each of those and an AP version of one in HS.
Take AP’s in subjects you enjoy. If you don’t like the subject don’t take the ap class. Depending on your strengths and how much time you need to prepare for the sat lose ap stats.
Four AP’s isn’t too bad, but it highly depends on which ones you’re taking. Two histories are very difficult to juggle, particularly when one of them is APUSH. APUSH is so detailed that it’ll likely be very hard to manage that with Euro, no matter how good you are at history. Don’t worry so much about getting AP credit as you should about taking classes you’re actively interested in. I also haven’t heard of AP Stats being very useful. Don’t forget to make time for studying for standardized tests and for extracurriculars! Good luck!
Agreed. 4 AP’s concurrently may not be bad depending upon which AP’s they are and the individual student’s abilities. However, taking 2 AP Histories at the same time is a disaster waiting to happen. Not only is each a boatload of reading, but the odds are that all major projects will happen at the same time. Save one of these classes for next year.
Save AP euro for senior year.
Make sure you take the 3rd or 4th level of a foreign language.
Completely agree with the previous comments, those two history courses (I’ve taken both) are very time consuming and imo for anyone, you’d be setting yourself up for failure if you’re doing any ECs. If they offer AP Psych at your school and you just want to take the AP courses, take it, it’s definitely the easiest. Good luck!
I have taken 5 AP classes at the same time, it just matters how you manage the time.
I have taken two histories at the same time (AP World and AP Euro) with AP World being during a half period, and I was fine. It depends on your schools/the teachers tbh and how much work they give. Ask around at previous students and see if those classes have a lot of work to them. If history comes easy to you, and you think you can handle all those classes after asking around, then you should be fine IMO.
