Is getting an invite to Leadership Award a good sign?

Just got email "Dear UC Berkeley Applicant,

The Cal Alumni Association invites you to apply for our undergraduate scholarship, The Leadership Award.

Funded through the generosity of Cal alumni and supporters, The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship providing incoming freshman students up to $2,000 each year as recognition of their past leadership and future potential. It is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs at UC Berkeley."
And disclaimer:
"Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status."
Although it has the disclaimer, is the scholarship a good sign towards getting admitted or is it sent to everyone? Anyone here that got into Berkeley last year and got the scholarship invite can chime in?

I was wondering since it seems like in the UCLA section of this forum, people say that if you get the Regent Scholarship invite you are "99.999%" to get admitted to UCLA

No, everyone gets that leadership one. if you get a regents invite to any of the UCs, it’s a guaranteed acceptance. They actually said “congratulations on getting into Berkeley” when I went for the regents thing in February or whenever.

lol yeah everyone gets one. Just know if you apply, and get selected as a finalist, PREPARE. If you want to win it. I was a semi-finalist, but didn’t get it. Though there’s probably people who need it more than me.

Daughter rec’d this email today, as well. Odd that a $1000 scholarship is considered to be Berkeley’s “most prestigious” scholarship…?

I’m a little confused. I received the Alumni Leadership invite. Some people are posting this means applicant is in top 3% of applicants (as opposed to top 1.5% for Regents invitees), but others are saying “everyone” gets the Alumini Leadership e-mail. Does anyone know definitively which is correct?

No, I was not in the top 3% for sure, but I applied and it is based on you leadership/extracurricular activities. You may have received the email to “apply” but that does not mean they selected you because your superior to others. If you applied already and then get an email saying you have been selected as a semi-finalist, THEN you were SELECTED out of a group.

aw…so everyone gets one? what a bumer =/

Except me… :(

EDIT: Take that back. It was in my junk mail (lol).

Wait I like legitimately didn’t get this e-mail. CRAP :frowning: Berkeley’s my top choice.

The Leadership Award is administered through the Cal Alumni Association which has nothing whatsoever to do with the admissions department. It should definitely not be used to gauge possible acceptance to Cal. I’m a member of the CAA and am both a reader and an interviewer for the award. Congratulations if you were invited to apply!

The only helpful hint I can give for you prospective applicants is what is already to be found in the award application itself. Read the essay questions CAREFULLY and answer each part FULLY (e.g. follow the directions). You would be amazed at how many students do not do this and subsequently have their applications rejected after the first round.

P.S. Don’t worry if you weren’t initially invited to apply for the Leadership Award this year. If you’re accepted to Cal you can reapply as a current student next year.

CalBear- just a clarification. Are you saying this Email doesn’t go to all applicants?
