I really really love SLO and I got accepted! Only I was stupid and not as thoroughly as I should have been when applying. I applied as an Animal Science major, and it’s not exactly what I want. On the surface it seems great, but once I did deeper it doesn’t suit me. I want to switch to a Biology BS. I have already read through everything major change related on the SLO website and have gone through the requirements for switching to bio. I understand I will need to keep a decent GPA and take some prerequisite classes and be present for two quarters to change to a biology BS, and to me, it seems doable. Is the website misleading/will a major change be more difficult than the site leads on? I’m really determined to make this change happen because I feel SLO would be a great fit for me. If I am unable to change to bio, I feel I could still make my time at cal poly worthwhile.
Depends on which major is more difficult to get into. If you are going from more difficult admission to less difficult you wont have much trouble.
Usually you have to sign a contract and then maintain your GPA for a while and then the switch should be good I believe.
Biology is a lot tougher to get into with an acceptance rate around 13% compared to animal science of around 50% the first step will be to see if you would of been accepted into the major you want to change into when you applied. If yes then you can start the process after one quarter but there’s still no guarantee.
Only choose Cal Poly if you would be content if you did not get into Biology. You might get in, but, as @r77r77 pointed out, there’s risk if you are trying to swim upstream. Good luck.
@eyemgh Does the same uncertainty apply to a transfer changing within the same college, say MfgEng to CompEng?
Yes
