Its pretty much last minute and I still have not decided. From what Ive read is that UCD does not have as good of an engineering program as Riverside, and this is a concern for me obviously as a computer engineering major. I also heard that it is much easier to get to know one’s professors in UCR than UCD since most classes are packed with high numbers of students.

Another thing Ive heard is that UCD becomes very expensive as there are fees for many things, and financial aid is a big factor for me.

I live 1 hour away from Riverside, and about 6 or 7 from UCD and Im not sure if this is a plus or not. UCD seems like it might be a great new experience, opposing the SoCal life style. Also, from what I’ve seen, the campus is beautiful.

Any suggestions to UCD’s engineering program. Also, how is housing in Segundo?

Wow. My other problem is that I received a D in physics due to Chronic Senioritis and i think UCD would be less forgiving than Riverside, especially with me taking engineering....

We are a major ECE department (ranked 20th among public universities) moving upwards in ranking. We have 700 undergraduates, 185 graduate students and 30 faculty. We offer 2 undergraduate majors (BS in Electrical Engineering and BS in Computer Engineering), a double major in computer engineering and electrical engineering and a 5 year integrated BS/MS program. We also offer a vibrant PhD program encompassing broad areas of electrical and computer engineering. We recently received a new 3 year GAANN award from the US Department of Education. Three junior faculty members of the department received the prestigious NSF CAREER Awards this year. The department has strong collaboration with local industry such as Intel and Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and has numerous research grants from National Science Foundation, Department of Energy and DARPA.

One more thing:
Big in engineering: UC Davis has the largest engineering undergraduate student population in the UC system, offering the most accredited majors.

About your D
How long have you known about it? You should have notified them right away. It may not be a deal killer, but you should let them know via email.

i think you should check this website out... **************.com
i personally think california state universities are much better for engineering undergrads as they offer a more hands on approach to learning, whereas UCs are more theoretical. thats just my opinion though, im a hands on learner. check the website for opinions on UCD engineering, they probably have some

I know people that have turned down SB, SC, and Davis to go to Riverside, it seems like its more favorable to go to Riverside. Now that gas is outrageous it would make it pretty difficult to visit home

Anyways, it's not much crazier than turning down Cal for Davis, which is essentially what I'm about to do... as soon as I get the courage to do it.

I don't know where you're getting your information, but UCD is far better than UCR in almost all academic areas, including engineering. And both schools have student-faculty ratios around 18-20:1, so class size is also a moot point. So yes, I think it would be crazy to turn down UCD for UCR. UCR is for students who can't get into ANY other UC besides Merced.

don't worry, i'm turning down UCD for UCR. though i know i'll probably have regrets, i just know that i'll be more comfortable at UCR. Davis' town just really isn't for me. i'm from socal; riverside is 1 hr away and davis is 6. riverside is just more convenient.. besides, it isn't like you're gonna be stuck there. i'm gonna work hard and transfer!

No worries for you either. I'm sure you will be very successful at UCR. Remember, a majority of your college choice is, and should be, where you feel the most comfortable.
