Is it recommended that we bring a fridge and/or tv for our dorm room?

Muir has microwaves. (“There are two microwave ovens for student use on each floor in the residence halls.” - Muir Residential Life Handbook)

Is there enough room on the desks for a monitor and keyboard? I prefer hooking those up to my laptop when I need to use it for a long time, but I’m worried that there won’t be enough room to write and stuff.

there’s more than enough room. My friend had a large laptop, a second monitor, and another keyboard on his desk.

My other friend had a 36" flat screen monitor on his desk.

I thought that having a fridge, though by no means necessary, was extremely convenient to have in your room. You’ll have to share with your roommates, since only one is allowed per room.
Its great having your drinks, fruits, yogurts, etc cold without having to run down to the dining hall every time. Also, if you like to eat cereal in the mornings, it’s nice to have a place to store the milk so, again, you dont have to scramble down in the wee hours of the morning (or at least before class).
I think a fridge is pretty much a MUST this year around for us Muir kids because we wont be having a dining hall close enough to be convenient. Every time you have to make that long trip to OVT or Revelle (they’re the closest) you might want to bring back extra food or snacks that may require a fridge to keep edible before you decide to eat them later on that day or the following day.
Just make sure you and your roommates routinely clean out the fridge. You dont want to be left with moldy pastas or sticky juice/sauce spots everywhere.

As for a TV, I thought it was a great to have one (though sometimes distracting) especially when you and your roommates want to just chill out in the room or if you’re eating by yourself. I like working with a little noise in the background so I usually turn on the tv with a low volume (so I dont get distracted… haha)

But even if you have lug a TV to your dorm room, a comp will do just fine, right?

One fridge is definitely recommended. Microwave is not recommended…it’s heavy and there’s already enough that the res halls provide. TV is nice to have in the room if you aren’t too distracted by it… For me, I was in a triple and all three of us slept with the tv on… good way to sleep.
