Have you called Albany yet? If they do rescind you, which is unlikely if you’re making satisfactory academic progress, I’d find another SUNY. Your parents can afford 2-3 years at one of our state schools, right?
Regardless of the classses I didn’t get, I would still have applied for fall 2017. I just thought the classes will not be a huge factor.
Did they tell you the classes weren’t important, or was that an assumption?
What am I missing here? I thought Penn State was UNAFFORDABLE.
You are a resident of NY state…so Penn State would be at OOS costs…with not nearly enough potential aid to attend…as a transfer student.
I’m going to try and give Albany a chance. If I love it I would stay. If not then I would apply to Penn State again for Fall 2018. My parents especially my mom will always support me.
Wouldn’t your parents have to take out $30k/year in loans for you to attend Penn State (times 2.5-3 years since you’re a transfer) while you could graduate nearly debt free from a SUNY school? Go into Albany with the idea of finishing there. If you continue to fixate on Penn State, you’re going to find it difficult to be happy at SUNY Albany.
Make sure you focus on your academics even if you don’t love it, because if they start slipping you won’t be in a good position to transfer again.
Personally my goal would also be to get out of college asap. If you were following the Penn State four-year plan, you wouldn’t have finished the freshman classes yet (calc 2, physics 1). That’s like 3.5 more years IF everything went perfectly – no drops, no failing, no chance bad professors. I don’t know what Albany’s course plan is like, but I could easily see “2-3 more years” ballooning to more. And transferring again might set you back further.
Yesterday I was thinking and I would rather stay at Albany. transferring will be hard due to the courses I will be taking espically in Meteoorlogy. So I’m staying at Albany.
I’m really worried about calculus 2, Physics 1 and Organic Chemistry. I’m going for minor in Chemistry. Should I wait or take it at the same time?
It’ll be tough, but you’ve taken organic before, so at least you have some exposure to that material? Hope you still have your previous notes and exams to help you study.
Saw by chance on some other thread that you are familiar with some of the online math resources that are out there – Khan Academy, PatrickJMT, Pauls Math Notes, Professor Leonard, etc. There should be some for physics and orgo as well. I think Khan Academy has both. I’ve also heard people reference the book “Organic Chemistry as a Second Language,” and I personally used the website Master Organic Chemistry when I was confused. Read your textbooks, go to office hours, use all the resources available to you.
Yes, I kept all my notes from Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. Since I audit Organic 2. Physics is what going to be hard for me. I haven’t found any resources online.
And If I somehow don’t pass Physics 1, they only offer it only in the Fall. So I’m guessing they curve or just make it harder for students?
Haven’t vetted any of these but they look promising:

https://cosmolearning.org/courses/801-physics-i-classical-mechanics/ (lectures)
http://guides.lib.uw.edu/c.php?g=345811&p=2329931 (interactive simulations)
And of course whatever textbook you’re told to buy. You may also be assigned online homework on MasteringPhysics or WebAssign or something like it.
If it’s anything like physics at PSU, curving is likely, but it’s still very possible to fail if the student doesn’t put the work in or thinks not understanding (insert topic here) won’t come back to bite them.
There is a thread in the Parents Forum about OCHem. Lots of good suggestions there regarding study things. One was Organic Chemistry as a Second Language. You might want to get that!
I’m blessed, already having thoughts about being debt free. Thank you guys for everything. So long Penn State dream, see you in Graduate school
Also, How does housing rates work? Are the rates for one or two semsters?
It should say on the page where it lists housing rates, if they are per semester or per year.
Are you going to be able to live on campus as a transfer? Or are you going to rent off campus?
http://www.albany.edu/housing/roomrates.shtml
it says rates are for the 2017/18 academic year
Still, have to pay other expenses. More loans for mom and dad Tuition is paid by dad’s university
There’s housing only for transfer students on campus I believe. Although you need 3.25 gpa to be considered. Lol
