Is it worth taking the ACT for the 4th time?

I've taken the ACT once a year since my sophomore year.
My dad really wants me to get at least a 32.
After my second attempt, I took 6 weeks of one-on-one tutoring, scoring between 32 and 35 on the science section of the practice tests.
But for some reason, when I took the real test, my science score actually got worse.
If I had managed to get at least a 27 on the science, I would've gotten a 32 composite.
Do you think it's worth taking the ACT (for the 4th time) in December to reach a 32?

Schools I'm trying to get into: USC, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, UCLA

Thanks for your help!

Do you live in Cali?
If yes, I wouldn't retake it; if no, I would retake it.

If you got another 3 and a half to 4 hours to kill and you're not adverse to suffering, you might as well take it again since there are no consequences if you do poorly (unlike the SATs). However, if you have something better to do that day, I suggest you go do it since the difference between a 31 and a 32 is negligible. Also, the science section is probably the most unimportant part of your score, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Do it. Prep like crazy and I swear you can score a 33+

Apsum 41 All I have to say is this:

(Sophomore): 27
(Junior): 31, 30
(Senior):Sep 27 Oct 34

I took the test 5 times and it paid off big time with a 34. Considering the schools you are applying for, I would definatly retake. However, when you retake it I would suggest using Mcgraw HIll 10 ACt test and doing the entire book over a month. Thats what I did and it helped a lot.

I have taken the test 4 times so far and here were my scores: 28,30,28(did no intellectual activity all of summer), and then recently a 32. I plan to take it again in Dec. mainly because in march i don't want to feel like i didn't do everything i could.

Taken 4 times thus far.

1st: 24 (no studying)
2nd: 24 (sick as **** during test)
3rd: 25 (half sided desks- no room for anything)
4rd: Dunno yet -- praying for a 26+

Your ACT score is a good one as is. Have you taken the SAT?

I hope this site helps you.

University of California - Admissions

Choose the UC, go the right hand column, and open the PDF page of the admissions profile of the 2007 freshmen that are entering that UC. That will give you a rough estimate of where you stand.

But of course, theres always room for improvement. Judging by your upward trend in overall scoring, it would be safe to say that you WILL improve on your next test as long as you don't lag behind.

Thanks for the replies.

I do live in California, but I didn't know that gave me such an advantage for the schools I'm applying to.
I'm done studying for the ACT, except maybe a few science practice tests. (If i do retake it).

and I have taken the SAT:
SAT I: 1930 (1st try), 1900 (2nd try)
SAT II: Math II - 800, (waiting for physics score)

You should be fine for the schools on your list with your current ACT. Great score on your SAT II MathII score of 800 !!!!

Well I decided to take it again in December.
Here are the results:

M: 36
E: 36
R: 30
S:28

C: 33

Thanks for all your replies!

I guess the 4th time's a charm.

Nice Congrats.

Glad to hear. Well done. :)

Wow. That's amazing.
