Is my chance of getting into nursing school over?

After working hard in statistics, I ended up with a 78% as my final grade. I emailed the professor about raising it to a B and mentioned how I always attended lectures and tutoring and never missed a day and got a 100 on my online assignments. She still did not reply. I emailed the GA if she can do anything and she said she understands my frustrations, but she can’t help me. Will the C make me not be able to get into nursing school at all now? How do I bring this up to my mother because since I made a 4.0 last semester, she expected me to do the same this semester and the stats class made it impossible to get a 4.0 . Now my average is a 3.5 for the semester.

I would suggest you speak with your academic adviser. I understand many of the nursing programs allow students to re-take a class to improve their grade so that may be an option. Not sure how competitive the pre-nursing program is where you are, many programs have an average gpa of 3.8+ to get into the upper division nursing programs. Don’t give up, you sound like a hard worker and I am sure you will do well the rest of the way.

Did your mother ever take a stats class? If so, she’ll understand. If she’s not understanding about it, it’s her error and not yours. I got a lower grade than that when I took my first SPSS class, but eventually I learned what I needed to know. I understand it now in retrospect, and coincidentally I also had a prof who did not reply to emails.

And good news: This is 100% not at all something that will ruin your chances of being in nursing school. You will need to learn about statistics again when you’re in a nursing program, and it will be easier then because of this struggle you went through now. Everything is as it should be. : )

The professor merely notes what you have earned…always remember that in nursing (as well as other majors) it is important that you understand what is in the classes because lives are on the line. If a nursing student was not good at algebra and messed up when calculating drug dosage it could be fatal.

As a side note:

I’m not going to say that this never works, but I will say that this is generally expected of you and is kind of your job, so you shouldn’t expect extra points for showing up when you’re supposed to show up.
