Is my PSAT score good enough for National Merit Scholarship???

I just found out my PSAT score today: 1410/1520
WHAT DO I DO I DID NOT EXPECT tHIS
I live in Indiana btw, would I at least get commended?

Commended and Semifinal status is determined by your selection index. Based on that and what the cutoffs were for your state last year, you can get an idea of where you will fall (the Selection Index for Commended was 211 last year)

How do I find out what my SI is??

What was your math score and what was ERW score?

My math score was 700 (not as good as I hoped) and my ERW score was 710

EBRW I mean

math=700
ebrw=710

Dad2020??? hello

Also, would this be considered a strong score?? And how could I improve on the math section???

Your SI is 213. Good enough for commended this past year, but Indiana’s cutoff was 218 or 219.

Are you a Junior?

You would take the 71 times 2=142 the EBRW is made up of two score for example 36 and 35. The math would be 70. To make my labored explanation shorter.
142+ 70=212

@amycee The SI number are listed along with the other scores. If you do not have the full report, ask your GC.

Sorry, my mistake. 212 is correct.

I am a sophomore

Thank you!! So do you think I would at least be commended??

Semifinalist or Commended designations only apply to scores for the PSAT taken junior year. Are you asking if people think you will make Commended when you take it next year?

Oh…so I don’t receive any sort of recognition as a sophomore???

Sophomore test results don’t count, only Junior year PSAT results. It’s a good thing you took it this year because it’s good practice. Study for it over the summer and I am sure your scores will improve next fall. My kids took PSAT as sophomore as practice, without any prep, and they got good scores. When they took it as junior, scores improved and my oldest son qualified as NMSF and moved onto NMF. We’re waiting for results for my daughter.

Wow, thanks!! And that’s awesome that your children have done so well on the test. I’m actually not too ecstatic about my score and am determined to score even higher in the upcoming year. Best of luck to your oldest son!

@amycee Thank you. Please be awared that qualifying for NMSF and NMF is not a huge accomplishment as you think it is and not qualifying does not mean a student is not a high caliber. In our case, my kids are generally good test takers and that does not mean they are shoo in the most selective colleges. Since you are a sophomore, I advice that you don’t think about PSAT for the rest of the year and just prep a bit next summer or fall. Spend your time now doing the best you can in your current classes, getting involved with ECs or part time job, etc. Those things are more important than qualifying for NMSF. Good luck.
