woot!!! So happy right now. I called myself the MIT reject at school today. After school, I checked snail mail and BAM! A thin envelope. My heart was pounding because I thought it was another rejection. Then I opened and saw the likely letter.

It also said that I was a finalist for the Irwin Jacobs scholarship. So that was a double dose of adrenaline right there. Any ivy giving out a merit scholarship...wow.

so anyways, I am a minority demographically. But I think I am an overrepresented minority. Indian. Came to the US in 1999.

My stats (A lot of ppl want to know):

800 Math, 670 CR, 720 W - 2190Total
800 math2, 780 chem, 730 bio
3.96gpa. 4.71 wgpa
essays were alright. recs were glowing.
Mediocre ECs...compared to the hundreds of superqualified kids around CC.
I think I got this letter because of my science fair work. For the past two years I have won my county's science fair. It is affiliated with Intel ISEF and it is the preliminary competition before ISEF.
Nursing home volunteer
Clothing center volunteer
President of International Club
National Merit Commended student
Maryland distinguished scholar honorable mention

Ah, got another letter in the mail saying I was "very likely to be admitted" in bold and I am a finalist for John McMullen Dean's Scholar award. As of now its this versus Stanford which I was admitted to SCEA. This is gonna be a tough decision lol, but I'm happy to have the ability to make it. Also, anyone can feel free to PM me trying to convince me about my decision lol.

Hey I got a likely letter too. The first paragraph was the same as akybaky's i think

"Your application to Cornell University has been reviewed by the admissions selection committee, and I am writing to let you know that you will be offere admission to Cornell. Although the Ivy League schools won't officially notify students of their admission decision until later this month, we wanted to share this good news with your now."

I applied to CAS btw. And it's dated March 10, so it took a while to get here!

Good luck to all the rest of you guys (and gals)!

drnoeyedea, I got the same letter :). It said I am very likely to be admitted to Cornell, and it says I am a finalist for the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Scholarship. I understand that the likely letter basically means I'm in, right? However, I'm still going to be very nervous until I have the official acceptance letter in my hands...

some of yours say you WILL BE admitted. Mine says "you are very likely to be admitted" .. does this mean there's a possibility i won't be? how sure should i be..? this is so nervewracking!

You guys must have a lot of other stuff going on for you. I have grades and scores above Cornell's average (2300 SAT) and a few ISEF Grand Awards and some other national/international awards but I haven't heard a single thing yet. I'm really anxious now about the 31st.

mdcissp.. thanks for you kind words.. I now know what you all mean by Likely.. I got home today and I have another letter that states the word likely and its from the Engineering Dept and it goes on to talk about visiting and the SWE event coming up. So there are two types of letters.. one says you "will be admitted and you are being notified early" and the other says "likely to be admitted" It appears they come from completely separate depts. So I see the confusion now..

well i got a likely letter (2, really) saying "you are very likely to admitted to cornell." the other one let me know about my finalist status for the John McMullen award/scholarship thing.
(for the college of engineering)

well, stats for those wondering:
location: NC
SAT: 2200; Math-800, CritRe-680, Writing-720
Class Rank: 1 of 425
Extracurriculars: Not anything really outstanding, but i did do some things (like clubs and stuff)

CONGRATS TO THOSE WHO GOT THEIR LIKELY LETTERS!
and to those who didn't, perhaps it'll come later this week...if you didn't get one, it does not necessarily mean you didn't get in...

I don't seem to see anyone here saying they applied to CALS so they may not be sending likelies for that school...wishful thinking at best I guess.

Come to think of it nobody has reported a likely for CALS, ILR, or HumEc. Is there a connection between the schools connected to the state and likelies?? (Once again, purely speculating)

Im waiting for someone to come along and prove me wrong on that one. I think I'd rather know that I'm just speculating than to be right and have that much more anxiety about this.
