Hey guys I know this might be inappropriate, but I really want to know is IU a school where a lot of people do drug? How often is it? I heard a lot of rumors saying it is so often to see people smoking in IU dorms.
IU is a non-smoking campus. If you smoke in the dorms, especially drugs – you are taking a big chance. IU police walk the dorms on a regular basis. Unfortunately, drug abuse is a major societal problem. IU is not immune to it, but not any worse than other colleges.
I agree with the above. I don’t think IU experiences significantly worse drug issues than other colleges. You’ll be able to find lots of people who do drugs at every college, though. It’s pretty easy to avoid drugs if that’s what you are concerned about.
I don’t think IU is any different than any other college in the US. My D had a girl a few doors down from her escorted out by the police about two weeks ago for smoking weed in her room. That is the only issue she has seen in her dorm all year.
Weed in the dorms is very common but it is also cracked down on heavily. Its hard to do it in your doom room without some smell getting out giving the tight quarters of the dorms. I know people who got away with it almost every day and I know people who got caught one too many times and got kicked out of the dorms.
The two biggest drugs at IU (besides alcohol of course) are weed and cocaine. I lived in Eigenmann my freshman year, a dorm where the windows don’t open above the third floor due to suicide risk, and I’d estimate that I saw about 20 people get popped for weed my first year because they were dumb enough to smoke indoors. IU has a policy where RAs have to immediately call the police if they smell marijuana, not knock on a resident’s door. Cocaine is something I’ve only seen really on the weekends at parties, and is very popular with the business majors and greek life.
What dorms are the worst in terms of drug usage?
If you are an incoming freshman to IU the housing application has typically only allowed a student to “preference” neighborhood, a price tier and room-mate (if selected). Note the word “preference”. In each neighborhood there is a variety of dorms - some newer, some very old, some with or without AC and others with varying levels of renovation completed over the years. Due to mold issue this year impacting many freshman dorms, two of those quads will be taken offline for renovations in May to deal with the issues more comprehensively. If you really want to improve your odds of getting assigned to a certain building, you may be able to find out where each LLC will be located next term and submit a separate application for an LLC. Admission to those is not guaranteed and some have waitlists even after acceptances go out - like the Kelley LLC. The KLLC is moving from McNutt to Eigenmann next year as McNutt is one of the mold impacted quads. Good luck! You can find trouble or stay out of trouble wherever you go to school - the decisions are up to you. But if you come to IU, they have some dorms that have police officers who are college students themselves living in the dorms and many undercover officers on campus and in town that visually might be hard to pick out from the crowd until trouble goes down.
