Ivy League Stereotypes?

did u read the first post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I did, do you know what a "stereotype" is? Do you understand that stereotypes are generally exaggerated or false? Do you understand that this thread was simply for elaboration on stereotypes? Is there a reason that you end questions with countless exclaimation points?

I'd just like to take a tiny step out there and say that not only does Yale science NOT suck... it's really really rocking. The research opportunities, the teaching, and the students in science here are all really awesome. Definitely don't belittle Yale when it comes to science.

BTW, just b/c Cornell has "WAYYYYYY" more workload means nothing at all other than the fact that you guys spend more time hitting the books :-P

Arjun, stop trying to argue ridiculously.

Cornell is considered the easiest IVY to get into, and it sits at the rock bottom of the IVY league.

Yale sits at the top of the ivy league with HYP.

Stop trying to compare both schools when you know anyone accepted at Yale and Cornell will overwhelming go to Yale.

Cornell is so unimpressive, it should be kicked out of the IVY league for Stanford, Duke, or MIT, all schools everyone agrees are better.

hmm...i think ive already proved my point...Cornell science is better than Yale science...the rest i don't care about :p...Science is my field...if Yale's good at Public speakin or somethin...tell it to someone who's doin that...from my point of view Cornell>Yale cuz Cornell engineering and science?Yale's

Let's be nice here... Cornell science and Yale science are comparable. Just leave it at that.

arjun's got a point there you guys. the Y in HYP stands for Cornell. it's like the silent 'o' in opossum. Yale's not even in the list.

Yo just be happy you guys got into ivies. You're set. And if you didn't, the truth is that no one gives a shlt.

SO back to the real subject of this thread, I didn't know Yale had a stereotype for being the "gay" ivy? What other stereotypes does it have? I've heard it is the most elitist, but I've also heard that of Princeton.

Adding my two cents:

All this talk about what Ivy deserves to be in the Ivy League and what Ivy does not is disgustingly elitist. It is like saying that man named Joe does not deserve to be called Joe just because he fell on the ground yesterday at 2:00. By the very nature of judging the other Ivies you Yalies or whatever Ivy school you represent have endorsed the snobbery so commonly seen in these schools. Which brings to mind why I applied to Cornell: THE SCHOOL WAS A PERSONAL FIT! Does this mean I could not have looked at the stupid and degrading mockery of higher learning, also known as the US News Rankings, and applied to all top 20 schools in the regular decision round and chose to attend the highest ranked school in April? NO. I (as an example) picked Cornell for my EARLY DECISION school, was accepted, and am HAPPY with my choice. MAIN MESSAGE: STOP MAKING COLLEGE INTO AN IMMATURE *****-SIZE COMPARING CONTEST!!!

I thought from the start this was going to turn into a stupid thread; I was right.
"Cornell is so unimpressive, it should be kicked out of the IVY league for Stanford, Duke, or MIT, all schools everyone agrees are better."
What is wrong with you?

well the general argument that yale sucks and cornell rules by Arjun is the most retarded argument I've heard. Nobody is saying Cornell should be kicked off the ivy league or something of the sort (and even if it does, who the hell cares since its a SPORTS league? It shouldnt affect academics) but such arguments and bickering is useless.

And yeah, for Arjun specifically, IVY LEAGUE means JACK S H I T. It's the university that counts, so who cares if its a part of a sports league or not?

"Cornell is so unimpressive, it should be kicked out of the IVY league for Stanford, Duke, or MIT, all schools everyone agrees are better."

Yeah right, Stanford, Duke and MIT can't come close. I would love to see the MIT football team take on Penn or Brown. Cornell's lax team rocked Duke's team last week (before a few duke team members gang-raped a stripper).

Does MIT even have enough D1 sports to play in the ivy league?

thank you, DiamondT, for doing the proper research on the ivy league before reporting which team should be kicked out of the conference.

I think Cornell and Yale are peer schools. Yale is better as an undergraduate institution. But as a whole, Cornell has a lot that Yale doesn't have.

Most Yale elitists claim that Yale is clearly superior, but theses ppl are just arrogant and naive.

nicely put, aurelius.

when i looked at colleges to apply to, i looked according to program, not prestige. Cornell had the very specific program that i was looking for, so I applied there. It was the only ivy i applied to ... Cornell is the only ivy that has the program i want. If Yale had the program, I would have applied there too. I couldn't be any happier with my decision, i'm at the school I want to be at in the program i want to be in. I think people should apply to schools not with the intention of getting into "the best of the best" but rather as a personal fit between school and available programs.

I would also agree that people who say Yale is clearly superior are very arrogant and thick headed. As a whole I would say that Yale generally has stronger programs, but "superior"? Give me a break. There are some programs that Cornell ranks better than Yale, and vice versa. Yale and Cornell are peer schools, save the word 'superior' for comparing Yale to a 4th tier state school or something.

Thats classic lol

Robo what Arjun? Cornell is the bestest-est and we mere mortals can only dream of attending that very very fine ... ivy institution. I mean- EVERYBODY knows Cornell is the school in the whole wide world. I agree with arjun- they should dump the peer-review section on the USNEWR rankings and replace it with "Number of robo thingies won". I'm sure the topic of the thread is called "Cornell rocks ... who said it didn't?". We all envy you arjun- we want you to be next president of the world and all. Tool

For crying out loud- you're going to Cornell and you don't even like the place- so stop being a stupid child and take your preachings of your own insecurity somewhere else.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=159038

Has it ever occurred to you that we might just say Cornell is the best and all just so you would shut up and **** off?

Way to bastardize sarcasm.

Just wanted to point out to all the Cornell people in this thread, Arjun clearly provoked any trash-talking or whatever is going on...if someone came over to the Cornell forum just trash talking (YALE ROCKS, CORNELL SUCKS) you'd probably see some pretty hot-headed replies as well.

Most people aren't insecure enough to feel the need to do that, though.

I agree. Does anyone else think this whole college process has twisted the majority of high-school minds? I mean, realistically speaking, the quality of education within all the Ivy League schools are similar in strength, right? Just because someone chooses to go to Yale does not mean that he or she will walk out with twice as much knowledge than if he or she chose to attend Cornell, or vice versa, correct?

I personally think that the reason people in the Ivy League or comparable universities succeed is because they are ambitious in the first place. With equal facilities and opporunities, the ambitious will prosper in whatever university they choose. But the reason I hate the US News Crap Rankings is because it fosters pe*nis-comparing almost to a point of fetishism. Have any of you seen the episode of Malcomn in the Middle in which there is a new substitute who ranks all of the students based on grades even though they all are within a margin of .0000000000001? Yeah, it's the same thing: the people at the top get ultra elitist and cocky and the people at the bottom feel cheated.
